Romanian Cargus 2006 Gross Profit Down to 2.1 mln Euro

Romanian courier services provider Cargus said its gross profit fell to 2.1 mln euro (USD2.73 mln) in 2006 from 2.5 mln euro (USD3.25 mln) reported in 2005.
Cargus’s 2006 turnover dropped below the value of 15.3 mln euro (USD19.9 mln) registered in 2005, due to higher investment last year, the company’s CEO Augustin Plesea said.
Cargus carried out a 2.5 mln euro investment project in 2006 to expand its vehicle fleet, acquire information technology (IT) equipment and finance promotion campaigns.
In 2007, Cargus expects its turnover to rise 45 pct on the year to 29 mln euro (USD37.73 mln).
Cargus (www.cargus.ro), set up in 1991, offers same day delivery, next day delivery, cash on delivery and declared value services.
In 2004, Cargus set up GeoPost Cargus, a joint venture with French-Turkish courier GeoPost-Yurtici Kargo, which offers international air express, air-road and road-based services on the domestic market.

DHL invests USD 35 million in Hong Kong

DHL is investing USD35 million in Hong Kong to capitalize on the continued growth of the region’s trade.
The investment includes opening a facility that will extend DHL’s ground-handling capacity about 20 percent as well as administrative office relocations to bolster operational synergy.
This investment raises DHL’s total outlay in Hong Kong to USD645 million, which includes a USD210 million Central Asia SuperHub. Hong Kong’s position as the centerpiece of DHL’s hub-and-spoke network has been reinforced by the company’s USD400 million investment in Air Hong Kong, a joint venture with Cathay Pacific that feeds Asia-Pacific cargo into Hong Kong for consolidation and transit purposes.

DHL USA wins new contract with Re/Max Network

DHL announced a multi-million dollar agreement with RE/MAX International, a global realty company with a franchise network of more than 119,000 agents in more than 60 countries. RE/MAX International Headquarters and franchisees will now use DHL for domestic express and international shipping.

DHL offers several solutions for a mobile workforce, including DHL ProView (TM), DHL’s latest online service which provides access to shipment status information wherever needed – via email or SMS text messaging to a PC, cell phone or mobile device.

DHL developed a dedicated web site to welcome all RE/MAX associates to the DHL Approved Supplier program. The customized site provides complete information about the new DHL-RE/MAX agreement, rates, shipping solutions, and information on how to get started shipping online. Additionally, DHL personnel will ensure individual RE/MAX agents have answers to specific questions and everything they need to use DHL shipping services.

Indian mulls tie up with India Post, Gati

State-owned carrier Indian on Tuesday said it is considering partnership with India Post and GATI for its proposed cargo service expected to be launched by the middle of this year.

“We are planning to start the air cargo service by the middle of this year, which is likely to be known as ‘Indian Cargo,” Indian Chairman and Managing Director Vishvapati Trivedi said on Tuesday.

He said the carrier is considering partnership with the country’s biggest postal service India Post and international cargo carrier GATI for the venture. Trivedi, however, added plans were in the process of being finalised at the moment, though the carrier would aim at selling cargo space in advance.
