Deutsche Post buys USD150 million stake in Atlas's polar air unit

Deutsche Post AG’s DHL express- delivery division plans to spend USD150 million for nearly half of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc.’s Polar Air Cargo unit, gaining access to extra aircraft in key markets.

DHL will pay cash to acquire a 49 percent holding in Polar, including a 25 percent voting interest, Atlas said today in a statement on Business Wire.

Bonn-based Deutsche Post, Europe’s largest postal service, has spent more than USD13 billion on acquisitions since 1996 in a quest to become the No. 1 logistics company in the world.

TPG Post changes name to TNT Post

The Hague, Royal TPG Post today officially changes its name to Royal TNT Post. The new name was first announced on 14 September 2005. Many measures have since been taken to prepare the company for the rebranding. Postal Service adding branches in stores

In today’s shipping business, it’s easy to get your package to Singapore overnight if you’re willing to pay for it.
So being accessible to busy customers is the way to stand out.
FedEx partnered with Kinko’s to get into 24-hour stores. UPS teamed up with Mail Boxes Etc. and operates more than 5,600 locations worldwide.
Now, it’s the U.S. post office’s turn. The government isn’t planning to go 24/7, but it is trying to be more convenient. First it opened automated postal centers in some post office lobbies, and now it has licensed postal outlets inside retail stores.

FedEx expands in Commerce City

FedEx Freight Corp. will break ground in Commerce City Tuesday on a new service center.

The Memphis company is building a 170,000-square-foot facility that will have 241 doors. FedEx Freight is relocating from its current service center at 5601 Holly St., also in Commerce Center. The current service center has 152 doors and measures 46,000 square feet.

The new facility will be the second-largest service center in the country. The largest, with 277 doors, is in Denver.

FedEx Freight is the less-than-truckload subsidiary of FedEx Corp.

The service center will be in Marty Farms Industrial Park at 96th Avenue. The current service center is at 5601 Holly St.

FedEx Freight accounted for USD 1 billion of FedEx Corp.’s USD 8.5 billion in revenue during the quarter ended Aug. 31, and USD 150 million of its USD 784 million in income.

Groundbreaking takes place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. Participants will include Commerce City Mayor Sean Ford; Dennis Beal, vice president, physical assets, FedEx Freight; Adams County commissioners Alice Nichol, W.R. Fischer and Larry Pace; and guests, customers and employees.

The new service center is expected to open in November 2007.
