DHL, the world’s leading express delivery and logistics company, announced it will offer three new signature delivery service options to provide customers with more direct control over their delivery needs. The new options, including delivering packages without a required in-person signature, will make deliveries more convenient for DHL customers.

Expanded FedEx terminal in area is 'gateway to Canada'

FedEx is finishing work on its distribution terminal on Walden Avenue to handle more packages. When FedEx Ground completes a 40 percent expansion of its Buffalo distribution hub this month, it will be able to deliver an additional 2,000 packages a day. The expansion is needed because people are buying more on the Internet, and FedEx is servicing a booming population across the border.
The Walden Avenue project is part of a USD 1.6 billion investment to expand 30 existing FedEx Ground distribution hubs and build nine new ones across the country.
Forrester Research predicts that by 2008, e-commerce in the U.S. will grow by 19 percent and online shopping will make up 10 percent of all retail sales.

Blue Dart board meet Aug. 17 to consider DHL offer

The majority shareholder of Indian express delivery firm Blue Dart Express Ltd. has offered to buy out all outstanding shares at 550 rupees a share, the company said on Monday.

Blue Dart board would meet on August 17 to consider the offer from DHL Express (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., which owns 81.03 percent of the company, and take a decision on consequent delisting.

Eaton, EPA showcase new fuel-saving hydraulic hybrid UPS delivery vehicle that will be road-tested in Cleveland

Eaton Corporation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today showcased the first-ever hydraulic hybrid diesel urban delivery vehicle. The EPA’s patented hydraulic hybrid diesel technology is achieving a 60 to 70 percent improvement in fuel economy and more than a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in initial laboratory testing of a large UPS truck.

EPA estimates that the technology has the potential to save more than1,000 gallons per year for each urban delivery vehicle. UPS will begin testing the vehicle this year on the road in the Detroit area and then will bring it to Cleveland for additional testing. The vehicle was developed through a partnership between EPA, Eaton, UPS, International Truck and Engine Corporation and the U.S. Army. EPA unveiled the truck in Washington, D.C. in late June.

DHL announced it will offer three new signature delivery service options to provide customers with more direct control over their delivery needs. The new options, including delivering packages without a required in-person signature, will make deliveries more convenient for DHL customers.

Shipments requiring signatures and destined for residential as well as commercial locations with limited hours of operation often result in multiple delivery attempts. In order to better accommodate the specific delivery needs of customers, DHL has expanded its service offerings from a single in-person signature option to three, allowing customers the flexibility to determine precisely how they want deliveries verified: signed by an adult with valid identification, by a signature of someone at the address, or left at the door or place of business per written instruction. These new options will provide more delivery flexibility and consistency for customers, especially those regularly receiving residential deliveries.
