GLS breathing down Austrian Post's neck

GLS, the European parcel subsidiary of Britain’s Royal Mail, is stepping up competitive pressure on Austrian Post through co-operation with the fuel station chain OMV, the Wiener Zeitung reported.

GLS is to open parcel shops in 180 OMV fuelling stations, country manager Klaus Schädle said. Together with parcel shops in other establishments, GLS will then have a total of 450 collection and drop-off points in Austria. This means that every third post office is now in direct competition with a GLS outlet. The parcels company said that half of its parcel shops are in communities where the post office has been closed down.

ICM Logistik AB sells remaining DHL contracts to Tornfrakt AB

The Swedish logistics services provider ICM Logistik AB said on Wednesday (26 July) that it has signed a preliminary agreement to sell its remaining distribution assignments from DHL Express to Tornfrakt AB.

The proposed transaction means that Tornfrakt will take over four vehicles and four employees from ICM Logistik.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but ICM Logistik said that the assignments represent an annual turnover of approximately SEK4m.

One Swedish krona (SEK) is worth approximately 0.07 British pounds (GBP).

French logistics group Geodis with strong H1 results

Geodis increased revenue by 7.3% (6.1% on a comparable, like-for-like basis excluding changes in exchange rates) despite an unfavourable business calendar (two fewer business days in France).

Total revenue for the first half of 2006 increased to €1,887 million from €1,759 million for the same period last year. From this €1,316.9 million was generated in France, €526.8 million in the rest of Europe and €114.7 million in Asia & the rest of the world. Asia saw the strongest increase with a growth rate of more than 35 %.

Nippon Express Malaysia named Best IT/Electronics Logistics Provider by Frost & Sullivan

Nippon Express Malaysia Sdn Bhd has been named Best IT/Electronics Logistics Service Provider in Malaysia by Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting company.

The award was conferred to Nippon Express Malaysia recently at the 2006 Frost & Sullivan ASEAN 4 Logistics Awards based on a Voice of the Customer research, which was officiated by Mr. Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board.

Frost & Sullivan Director of Transportation, Asia Pacific Kavan Mukhtyar says Nippon Express has emerged as the winner among the logistics service providers in the Malaysian IT/Electronics sector, as it secured the highest ratings for its service performance and capability from its own customers in the sector.
