Estonia: Baltic Logistic System boosts H1 sales by half

Baltic Logistic System Estonia (BLS Estonia) has posted sales of 30.1 million kroons (EUR 1.92 mln) for the first six months of 2006, a 48 percent increase over the same period of 2005.

The number of parcels handled by BLS Estonia also grew by half, to 537,000 parcels, the company announced.

In the fall BLS Estonia will start bringing its services under a single trade mark, DPD.

DHL announces new senior appointments in UAE

Express logistics provider DHL UAE has announced two key senior appointments to its marketing and sales team. As part of the new assignments, Neil Kuschel became DHL UAE’s National Marketing and Sales Manager, and Bill Pudney was brought in as Strategic Customer Channel Manager.

The move highlights DHL’s intention to consolidate its position as market leader in the UAE, where the express logistics leader currently holds over 40% market share. DHL has been offering world-class express logistics services to customers in the Middle East for over 30 years, the success of which, David Wild, DHL UAE General Manager attributes to a strong customer-centric focus and a commitment to providing high quality services.

UPS 2nd Quarter Produces Solid Earnings on 15% Revenue Gain

UPS today reported a strong gain in consolidated revenue and a 10.2% improvement in earnings per diluted share to 0.97 USD. Global small package volume rose 6% or 841,000 additional packages each day.

UPS closed the quarter with 2.85 billion USD in cash and marketable securities.

U.S. Package. All levels of service posted gains. Daily ground volume increased 4.6%, while average daily volume for Next Day Air® rose 4.2% and deferred air volume climbed 7.6%. Total revenue per piece remained firm with a gain of 2.7%.

Total international package volume grew 16.5%. Export volume increased 6.5% and non-U.S. domestic volume was up 23.6% aided by acquisitions.

Revenue and profit improvements in Supply Chain and Freight segment were primarily driven by the acquisition last August of a leading LTL carrier, Overnite, now re-branded UPS Freight.

DHL Express bags 2006 CIO Award

Express and logistics firm DHL was awarded the prestigious Chief Information Officer (CIO) Award at the recent CIO Asia Conference and Awards 2006 at the Grand Hyatt in Singapore.

The firm was selected among 100 Asian companies that yielded the greatest returns for their businesses by using technology and information technology (IT) projects and systems to derive the highest strategic value.

DHL was conferred with the CIO Award in recognition of its “Supply Chain Optimization” project.
