Deutsche Post World Net has good start in fiscal 2006

Deutsche Post reports first-quarter group sales up 40.7 percent, operating earnings rise to 917 million euros and international revenue reaches 57.4 percent of total revenue. The company posted 4.2 percent higher profit from operating activities (EBIT) of 917 million euros in the first quarter of 2006 compared with the same quarter last year. Organic growth and acquisitions increased sales by 40.7 percent to 14.8 billion euros. Excluding Exel, which was included in Deutsche Post’s accounts for the first time in the reporting period, group revenues totaled 11.9 billion euros. That corresponds to an increase of 13.4 percent. Consolidated net profit was 482 million euros for the first three months compared with 459 million euros a year earlier, a 5 percent increase. Due to a higher number of shares, earnings per share fell from 41 euro cents to 40 euro cents.

CEO survey names UPS America's top brand

Shipping giant United Parcel Service has been named the country’s top business brand in the American Brand Excellence Awards 2006. FedEx also was named a top brand. Both Atlanta-based UPS and Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx compete with Plantation-based DHL in the package shipping business. Respondents said they ranked UPS highly for being an industry leader, forward-thinking, easy to use, ethical, popular and a growing company.

TNT Express wins quality rankings in France and Germany

TNT Express has scored highly in two recent customer service rankings in Germany and France. The express operator was judged the “most customer-friendly service company in Germany” category in an annual ranking of 100 service providers. TNT Express was the only transport and logistics company in the top ten of the ranking compiled by the University of St Gallen, Steria Mummert Consulting and business newspaper Handelsblatt. In France, the company’s international customer service won a silver medal at a recent European customer relationship congress in the category of phone-based B2B customer relationships ahead of 120 other companies.

UPS pilot talks again on hold

A split within union leadership ranks has put contract talks between UPS and its pilots back into an indefinite recess, just as formal bargaining sessions were set to resume in the coming week, said a key union official. Tom Nicholson, president of the Independent Pilots Association, said in a message to members that after spending almost a full day on May 9 with union officials, the senior mediator from the National Mediation Board “concluded that the association is not prepared to enter negotiations at this time.”
