ColiPoste plans nationwide French parcel collection network

ColiPoste, the La Poste B2C and C2C parcels delivery company, plans to establish a nationwide network of parcel collection points within the next two years. The expansion plan is part of its ongoing EUR250 million investment programme. ColiPoste is currently testing 10 “Cityssimo” locations in Paris and plans to introduce more locations throughout the French capital in 2007, Christian Emery, managing director of ColiPoste, said at the World Mail & Express Europe conference in Paris this week. The nationwide rollout of the stations would follow in 2008.

TNT sets up Malaysian security control centre

TNT Express has invested up RM1 million to set up Asia Security Control and Command Centre (ASCCC) in Petaling Jaya for its Asia Road Network. “The amount is part of the RM15 million investment for this year, including the upgrade and and expansion of our facilities in Johor Baru, Penang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which are scheduled for completion by year-end,” its managing director, Gerry Power, said at a media preview of ASCCC today. Power said the network would be extended to link over 120 cities spanning 4,000km once Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are added later this year and China in 2007.

US express challenge for Deutsche Post

Deutsche Post has called the turnaround in its US express service business one of the major challenges for the next year. Chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel underlined, though, that the postal and logistics group has no intention of withdrawing from the US. ‘The setbacks in 2005 in connection with the integration of the hubs do not lead to a change in direction. Rather, they lead to a strengthening of our efforts,’ he said. DHL’s US express business suffered a loss of EUR400m (USD512m) last year, which was less than a year earlier but more than expected. Mr Zumwinkel underlined that as a global logistics player, a presence on this market was inevitable. 20% of Deutsche Post’s express volumes were coming from or destined for the US. The chief executive added that the division should be profitable from 2009.
