Amtrak wins majestic home delivery deal.

Majestic Wine Warehouses has launched a nationwide delivery service, called Gift Solutions, using Amtrak’s specialist wine service.
Majestic has only made deliveries in-house to addresses near its shops, which it will continue to do. Distribution will be from Majestic’s centre in Enfield to destinations across the UK.

Swiss Panalpina not interested in Dutch TNT Logistics Division

Swiss logistics company Panalpina Welttransport (Holding) AG is not interested in the takeover of the Logistics division of Dutch mail and logisticscompany TNT NV, Panalpina spokesman Martin Spohn said on December 14, 2005. We are not considering such large acquisition, which is not in line with our strategy to take over small specialised companies, Spohn added. TNT announced its intention to divest the Logistics division earlier in December 2005. The division generates an annual revenue of 3.4 bln euro (USD3.977 bln). Swiss logistics company Kuehne & Nagel International has recently said, a large acquisition was improbable in the near future because the company was engaged with the integration of a large acquisition in France.

UPS ranked no. 4 in U.S. for “Best Reputation”

UPS has just been ranked No. 4 in the United States for best reputation. The latest Harris Interactive corporate reputation study also cited UPS for excellent customer service compared to its peers and ranked it No. 2 overall for “highest trust” in the event of a service problem. The Harris Interactive survey, published last week in The Wall Street Journal, ranked UPS No. 4 overall behind Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola and Google. Harris Interactive asked more than 19,500 consumers to rate companies on a list of 20 attributes in six key dimensions.

TNT adds NA President

TNT Express, looking to raise its profile in the United States and Canada, created the new position of president for North America and named Matthew McDonough to the post. The new structure separates North American and South American regional duties that had been overseen entirely by Curtis Watson, president of the Americas for TNT Express. The shift comes as Netherlands-based TNT is preparing to sell its separate logistics unit in a move to focus more closely on its mail and express divisions, which are strong in Europe but lag far behind the large express operators in the United States.

UPS to make case v. Canada Post

Nearly five years after launching its dispute, US-based United Parcel Service Inc. will finally get to air its complaint this week that Canada Post is unfairly trying to use its postal monopoly to keep the courier rival at bay.
UPS will make its case before a North American Free Trade Agreement panel that Canada Post and Ottawa’s Canada Border Services Agency have discriminated against the Canadian subsidiary of UPS to give Canada Post an edge in the lucrative courier business. UPS launched the complaint under the controversial “investor rights” Chapter 11 of NAFTA, a part of the trade pact that attempts to protect the interest of foreign companies operating in Canada,
Mexico and the United States. UPS is seeking up to dollars 185-million in
damages.
