UPS is gaining momentum in 2nd quarter volume growth

Citing good momentum through the first five weeks of the quarter, UPS executives today said US domestic volume growth was “well ahead” of expectations for the second quarter and international export volume continued to climb at its expected double-digit rate. The gain in domestic volume follows a first quarter in which UPS reported significant international export package growth and a strong 16.2% gain in net income. UPS today said it continues to expect a strong 2005 with full-year net income growth of 16-to-20% over the adjusted USD2.90 reported for 2004.

Deutsche Post Q1 EBIT up 2.8 pct as revenues fall slightly

Deutsche Post World Net AG said first quarter EBIT rose by 2.8 pct to 871 mln eur, while revenues fell 0.4 pct to 10.526 bln as a result of a sales decline in the cash-rich mail business and in the express division. It said the prior-year figures were adjusted to reflect IFRS accounting standards, which the company started using this year. It will report from now on EBIT figures instead of EBITA, which analysts had forecast would fall below last year’s 937 mln eur.

DHL to manage warehousing and distribution of Ford spare parts and accessories in Indonesia

DHL has been awarded a contract by Ford Motor Indonesia to manage the auto manufacturer’s nationwide warehousing and distribution of automotive spare parts and accessories. The contract, which is for an initial period of two years, is expected to significantly enhance Ford Motor Indonesia’s ability to provide quality spare parts services to its customers through its network of 15 Ford Superstores across the country. Additionally, Ford Motor expects to realize considerable improvements in productivity, efficiency and costs savings utilizing DHL’s proven supply chain expertise and resources.

China Post expands overseas express mail service

China Post will launch an EMS Promise Service on Tuesday, which will cover Hong Kong, Japan and S. Korea. This is another measure adopted by China Post to bring the honest and trustworthy business ideology into the cross-boundary express mail service following the Next Morning Arrival domestic service which promises full refund if the mail fails to arrive the next morning.

The EMS Promise Service means that China Post will publicize enroute time limit for EMS mails destined for certain countries and regions and promise to deliver the mails to their destinations within the time limit.

Polish Post (Poczta Polska) will soon have to face new competitors. It’s possible our letters will be delivered by yellow-clad Deutsche Post mailmen or La Poste employees is navy blue. Today, we have no choice. If we want to send a letter or a postcard, we have to do so through Polish Post. Until the end of 2008, it has a guaranteed monopoly on light weight parcels (up to 50 grams). Before we send the parcel, it is worth taking a look at the calendar. A priority letter (more expensive than the regular type) will be delivered the day after it is sent, if we put it in the mailbox in morning hours.
