German Hermes Versand to start operating parcel machines

Hermes Versand, the postal service operator owned by German mail order group Otto, is to set up 10 parcel machines in Hamburg, Munich and Dusseldorf together with its co-operation partner Siemens, the German technologies group, and will thus intensify its competition with Deutsche Post, Germany’s leading postal service operator and former monopoly.

Spanish Logista to acquire Geopost Logistics for EUR12.8mln

Altadis SA affiliate Cia de Distribucion Integral Logista SA said it has reached a preliminary agreement to acquire La Poste Group’s Geopost Logistics Holding (GLH) for 12.8 mln eur.

In a statement, Logista said the acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and the ‘execution of the share purchase agreement’.

UPS 2nd quarter earnings climb over 18 percent

UPS has reported an 18.2percent gain in net income for the second quarter on a 7.8percent increase in revenue with strong growth in its global small package business. In addition, the company raised its future guidance and expects full year 2004 earnings growth to approach 20percent.

Previously, the company’s guidance called for 2004 earnings at the upper end of a 12-to-18percent range.
