FedEx now in Barcelona

The US CEP and ogistics giant FedEx Express is expanding its activities in Spain and has opened a new branch in Barcelona. In tandem with the state-owned Spanish airport operator Clasa (Centros Logisticos Aeroportunarios SA), FedEx has signed an agreement on the purchase and construction of a logistics platform in the freight terminal at Barcelonas international El Prat airport. Costing EUR 2 million, the new building will have a working area of 3,800 sqm.

Spain-Tir lifts revenues

Spain-Tir, the Spanish transport and logistics company, grew its revenues by 8% in the first quarter of 2004 in comparison with the same period a year earlier. However, no concrete figures were given. In addition the Barcelona-based company announced that it is investing in a new logistics terminal costing over EUR 3 million in the freight terminal at Valencia-Manises airport. The 5,000 sqm facility with 65 truck docks is to be opened in April 2005.

Grupo Logista posts dip in profits

The Spanish logistics provider Grupo Logista reached consolideated net sales of EUR 994.8 million in the first quarter of 2004, a 5.7% increase compared with EUR 941.3 million in 2003. Net profit however slid by 16.7% from EUR 17.3 million to EUR 14.4 million and operating profit (ebitda) sank by 8.3% from EUR 26.94 million to EUR 24.67 million. The loss in earnings was primarily due to a fall in revenue in Grupo Logistas tobacco related business.

DHL promotes service for Asian chartered flight

DHL, the leading express delivery and logistics company, announces that it will enhance the payload capacity of the chartered flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong.

The company’s decision will not only meet the increasing market demand in Asia Pacific region, but also will boost the foreign trade exchange of Yangtze River Delta economic area. In 2003, the chartered flight put into operation, which enables Shanghai to be one member of the DHL Asian aviation network.
