DHL rates Zimbabwean business as best of the Southern African stations

Leading logistics firm DHL has rated its Zimbabwean business as the best of the company’s stations in Southern Africa and the fourth best in the emerging markets in the world.

Announcing the award, for which all 47 African countries in which DHL operates were rated, Johannesburg-based area manager Michael Druce said: “Well done to Ishmael Muchemenyi, Jeff Phiri and the team in Zimbabwe for a tremendous result in 2003. It is truly remarkable when one considers the environment in which they have to work.”

DHL Iberia, the Spanish subsidiary of German express mail delivery group DHL, has bought Spanish cargo transport company Liste for an undisclosed sum, it was reported on June 14, 2004.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen DHL Iberia’s positions in the region.

Carriers say they are seeing a boom year for their services, as more consumers do their shopping with the assistance of delivery services.

Since beginning in 2000, the domestic delivery business in Taiwan has grown sharply. According to Taiwan Pelican Express Co., the second largest domestic carriers in terms of size, the current average usage in Taiwan is 0.7 items per head per year.With the prevalence of online shopping, TV channel orders and multilevel marketing, savvy customers have become aware of the benefit of home carriers, and the market size could be valued at NTD.6 billion or more, Taiwan Pelican Express Manager Chieh Hsin-hsin said.

Publishers plan to take case against Deutsche Post to EU

German newspaper and advertising journal publishers’ associations are reported to be planning to take their complaint against postal service operator Deutsche Post to the EU Commission following the failure of the German antitrust authority to support their case. The complaint relates to the postal service operator’s delivery of advertising material as part of a new service. Publishers believe that Deutsche Post is encroaching on the territory of newspapers and other periodicals.
