German Trans-o-flex reports profit leap following restructuring

Trans-o-flex, the German specialist in the forwarding of valuable and urgent medical and pharmaceutical consignments, last year saw turnover up by 4.5 per cent at 396m euros. Post-tax profit was trebled to 16.5m euros.

The company, in which German postal service operator Deutsche Post holds a 24.8 per cent stake, has undergone restructuring, this being seen as the main reason for the improvements shown last year. Branches responsible for the delivery of consignments were transformed into independent subsidiaries.

USA FedEx gets USPS international express business

The U.S. Postal Service have announced that FedEx Express, will on July 1 take over the delivery of its overseas Global Express Guaranteed packages from DHL Worldwide Express.

“About 7,400 Postal Service locations will offer the new co-branded service. As demand for this product grows, so will the number of Postal Service access points,” the USPS said.

TNT Mail UK teams up with Express Dairies to deliver mail

Mail and logistics company TPG N.V.’s UK subsidiary TNT Mail has signed a two-year agreement with Express Dairies, a trading division of Arla Foods UK plc, the UK’s leading dairy company, which will see Express Dairies delivering addressed heavier weight letters and packets for TNT Mail’s customers. The agreement with Express Dairies enables TNT Mail to deliver large non- time sensitive mail items to over six million UK households. The partnership will offer businesses a service for large bulk letters and heavier addressed packages.

FedEx extends Philippine lease

Fedex Express has extended the lease on its Asia-Pacific hub at Subic Bay, also signing an option to expand to the former Clark air base north of Manila in the Philippines, writes Keith Wallis in Hong Kong. Under the deals FedEx Express, the air express offshoot of one of the world’s largest transport companies, said the lease at Subic had been extended for another three years to 2010. The company also has an option to extend for a further period. FedEx has also signed an agreement with Clark International Airport Corporation that gives it a non-binding option to a 50 hectare site at the base, now renamed Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, until 2008. FedEx Express denied some media reports that relocating operations from Subic Bay to Diosdado Macapagal would cost it USD450m. But it declined to give further financial details before the release of group fourth quarter and full year results in about another three weeks.
