DHL extends reach in Asia

DHL is continuing its expansion in Asia with the launch of a six-times-weekly Shanghai freighter from its Hong Kong regional hub.

The 35-tonne payload A300B4 freighter begins operating on 15 June through the integrator’s partnership with local carrier Dragonair.

DHL currently serves the route via belly capacity offered by Dragonair passenger services.

DHL to raise China investment 7.5percent to USD215 mln

DHL Worldwide Express, a unit of Deutsche Post, said it plans to inject a further 15 mln usd in China to build more logistics centers.

The paper quoted Mark Ting, deputy managing director of DHL’s joint venture DHL-Sinotrans, as saying the new funds will raise the company’s total investment in China to 215 mln usd.

Deutsche Post to introduce up to 650 new ‘pack stations’ in Germany

Deutsche Post, the German postal service, is planning to introduce up to 650 new collection sites in 13 cities in Germany by the end of the year. These collection sites, which will be known as ‘pack stations’, will operate in a similar way to safe-deposit boxes, allowing customers to collect and dispatch packages around the clock, seven days a week. Pilot schemes have already been operated in Frankfurt, Mainz and Dortmund, and have been successful. Customers will be able to select a conveniently located collection point after registering for the services, and will be informed by SMS or e-mail when a package arrives for them.
