Deutsche Post to raise profit, dividend 2006

German postal service group Deutsche Post AG expects to raise profit and pay higher dividend in 2006 against 2005, company CEO Klaus Zumwinkel said on October 13, 2005.

Deutsche Post will generate higher profit in 2006, excluding the acquisition of British logistics group Exel plc, which will not influence next-year results, Zumwinkel added.

Deutsche Post forecast strong growth at its express courier, logistics and financial service divisions, which are expected to register an operating profit of 1.6 bln euro (USD1.918 bln) in 2005. Profit at the mail division is seen at 2.0 bln euro (USD2.398 bln).

Deutsche Post takes majority stake in Dutch mail service MailMerge

Deutsche Post World Net AG said it has taken a majority stake in Dutch mail service company MailMerge. No financial details were disclosed. Deutsche Post said its Dutch operations and MailMerge – which handles about 40 mln letters every year – have been cooperating closely since the end of 2003. By adding this majority stake, Deutsche Post said it has made its Dutch operations, which include Selekt Mail Nederland, Interlanden, Selektvracht and DHL Global Mail, the Netherlands’ second largest mail service.

DHL invests 3.3 mln eur in logistics terminal in Poland

Deutsche Post World Net AG’s logistics unit DHL said it has invested 3.3 mln eur in a new storage and sorting centre in Breslau, Poland.

This is one of five DHL logistics terminals that have opened in Poland this year.

The terminal has a capacity to handle 15,000 letters or parcels every day.

Deutsche Postbank to take over 850 Deutsche Post branches

Deutsche Post AG said it plans to transfer about 850 branches to its Deutsche Postbank AG unit in order to increase the bank’s revenue stream. Deutsche Postbank’s chief executive Wulf von Schimmelmann told journalists the move would lead to a ‘tremendous growth spurt.”I am certain that the positive benefits of this decision will be seen in our figures,’ von Schimmelmann added.
He did not provide any specific earnings or sales projections for Postbank following the transfer. A Deutsche Post spokesman said the branches will continue to operate as post offices despite the management change. Deutsche Post also said the move does not affect its majority stake in Postbank. The German postal company said it has begun talks with the ver.di union on the transfer.
