German Government prepares to separate Post and Telekom

According to German government circles, the Federal government plans to sell its shares in Deutsche Post and Deutsche Telekom by the end of 2006. Deutsche Post weighing Tibbett & Britten bid

Germany’s postal giant, Deutsche Post, is talking to investment banks to work out if it can table a counter-bid to buy Tibbett & Britten, the British logistics group.

Deutsche Post met a number of advisers last week to see if it could top the Pounds 328m agreed bid that has already been made by Exel. Tibbett’s distribution network would be an ideal platform for the German company to expand in Britain and achieve its ambition of competing head-on against Royal Mail.

Germany to sell remaining Deutsche Post, Telekom shares by 2006

The German government plans to sell its remaining shareholdings in telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom and the semi-privatised postal authority Deutsche Post by 2006, government sources said on Tuesday.

Berlin plans to raise around 15.5 billion euros (18.6 billion dollars) by selling the lion’s share of its remaining stakes in Deutsche Post and Deutsche Telekom next year, with the proceeds earmarked to go into the budget, the sources said.
