Deutsche Post sole control of Securicor Distribution Ops cleared by EU

The European Commission said it has cleared the acquisition by Deutsche Post AG of sole control of Securicor Omega Holdings Ltd, which it previously jointly owned with Securicor PLC.

The commission said the deal gives rise to only limited overlaps which do not trigger competition concerns in either the UK or Ireland, which are the only member states where both companies are active in these services.

The European Commission has granted clearance under the Merger Regulation to the acquisition by Deutsche Post AG (DPAG) of sole control of Securicor Omega Holdings Ltd, a mail, parcel, freight delivery and logistics company currently controlled by DPAG and Securicor Plc. Deutsche Post and Deutsche Bahn expand co-operation

In future more parcel and express items will be sent by rail. Both companies are expecting to reactivate the route from Cologne, Germay, to Berlin at the beginning of the coming year. Other routes are being planned. The toll for lorries due to come into effect on 1 September and the increasing number of items are the basis for this co-operation decision. In doing so the Parcel InterCity network, currently covering the routes Hamburg/Hanover to Munich/Nuremberg, will be considerably extended. The destinations will be connected during the night with each other by trains, which, at up to 160 km/h, travel faster than any lorry.

No German redundancies at Deutsche Post

Deutsche Post, the German postal service operator, has not ruled out further job cuts abroad. However, management has assured that no redundancies are to take place in Germany, where any staff reductions carried out would take place through natural wastage. The company is also reported to be planning further acquisitions.

Deutsche Post examines acquisition of Norisbank

The management of Deutsche Post, Germany’s postal service operator, has confirmed that it is examining whether to acquire Norisbank, the Nuremberg-based subsidiary of HypoVereinsbank, Germany’s second largest bank. The profitable retail loan specialist is up for sale. Postbank, Deutsche Post’s banking subsidiary, is currently the only potential German buyer of Norisbank, which operates roughly 100 retail branches and has approximately 500,000 customers.
