Restructure for Deutsche Post's U.S. mail unit

Deutsche Post Global Mail USA has restructured its services and customer support.

The Herndon, Va.-based magazine and direct mail provider had its products into three groups: Global Mail Business, Global Mail Publication, and Global Mail Parcel. Each of them retains the three service levels previously offered -priority, standard and economy.

The subsidiary of German-based Deutsche Post World Net said each product group has a manager and account representatives to offer customer support.

DPD & Fedex to move into German domestic market

Parcel delivery firm, Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD) is to team up with FedEx to move into the international arena and take on Deutsche Post in the German Domestic Market.
DPD, a subsidiary of France’s La Poste is the second largest delivery service provider in Germany after Deutsche Post and through its collaboration with FedEx will now compete in the express deliveries sector.

Deutsche Post adjusts products and prices

From 1 March 2003, Deutsche Post will simplify the dispatch of counter parcels and reduce weight steps from 4 to 3. Thus, in the future the weight steps will be up to 5 kg, over 5 kg to 10 kg, as well as over 10 kg to 20 kg. This also generates new pricing structures for all domestic and international parcel and express shipments, including an increase in the charge for a small packet sent within Germany from EUR 3.68 to EUR 4.10.

Deutsche Post eyes stake in Chinese logistics group Sinotrans

Deutsche Post, the semi-privatised German postal authority, wants to acquire a stake in the Chinese state-run logistics firm, Sinotrans, a board member of the German group said in a newspaper interview published Wednesday.

“We’ve expressed our strong interest in a strategic partnership to the Chinese government,” Deutsche Post board member Uwe Doerken told the Financial Times Deutschland.

“We hope our leading market position and our long-standing joint venture with Sinontrans will make us the preferred candidate for a stake,” he added.
