Rivals bid to put brakes on Deutsche Post buying spree

Van Gend & Loos Euro Express (owned by Deutsche Post) is selling its bulk freight business, Nedlloyd Road Cargo, to Wijngaard Natie of Belgium. This allows Van Gend to concentrate on its core small parcerls business.
Wijngaard Natie’s turnover will now grow from USD23m to USD28m. It was founded in 1864 and is a medium-sized port logistics company based in Antwerp.

Germany faces postal strike

Ver.di, the union which represents workers of Germany’s postal
service, it threatening Deutsche Post (DP) with strikes following
the announcement that DP intends to cut 3000 jobs, a plan which it
rejects. It announced that its works councils will no longer approve
overtime by its workers, who number around 80,000.

Deutsche Post, Europe’s largest postal services group, announced on Tuesday it would cut 3,000 jobs in its mail delivery unit by early next year. The move was widely perceived as an attempt to accelerate cost savings in the division that is Deutsche Post’s largest and most profitable, but which analysts say has the lowest potential for growth.

Deutsche Post Set to Buy Austria's Cargoplan

Deutsche Post AG is close to reaching agreement on the takeover of Austria’s Cargoplan-Gruppe. A spokesman for the German postal services giant confirmed Wednesday that his group was “in talks on the acquisition of a logistics group”. But he added that a deal had not yet been finalized.
Meanwhile, the tug of war over Deutsche Post’s minority shareholding in courier service Transoflex continues. Antitrust concerns could end up forcing Deutsche Post to sell its 24.8% stake in the company.
