Claude Béglé to join DHL Express

Claude Béglé will be joining DHL, the global market leader in express and logistics, after having spent several years successfully building an international network and managing the Geopost International Division. He has been a Board Member of the Geopost group since 1999 and the Chairman of the European DPD organisation. Both Geopost and DPD are subsidiaries of the French La Poste. Béglé, 56, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer for DHL Express Germany and will also be Managing Director DHL Express Central Europe, responsible for Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. In his new position, Claude Béglé will report to Peter E. Kruse, Management Board member of Deutsche Post World Net and CEO of DHL Express Europe.

DHL to invest USD8 million in Pakistan to upgrade infrastructure

DHL will invest up to USD8 million in Pakistan over next three years, including constructing new state-of-the-art Airside Express Logistic Centers in Karachi, Lahore and upgrading all facilities. In a message read at the groundbreaking of DHL Pakistan’s Airside Express Logistic Center at Karachi International Airport, Scott Price, CEO DHL Express – Asia Pacific said the company has a long history of successful partnership with Pakistan. He said Pakistan is an important market for DHL and a significant country in growth of the company’s business in Asia Pacific. DHL’s inbound, outbound shipment volumes for Pakistan also increased, making it necessary to increase frequency of its dedicated flights in and out of Karachi and Lahore, its Gateways in Pakistan, to rest of the world.

DHL Mexico to Invest USD12 mln to modernise transport fleet

DHL Mexico, the Mexican unit of German express delivery services provider DHL Express, will invest USD12 mln (9.98 mln euro) to renovate its transport fleet, the vice president for operations of the Mexican unit, Luis Humberto Erana, said on September 26, 2005. DHL Mexico plans to buy 36 light trucks Mercedes Benz, as well as 32 light trucks M2 from US truck producer Freightliner LLC. The aim of DHL Mexico is to transport a total 300 tonnes of documents and packages daily in the Latin American country.

DHL Express (India) Pvt Ltd is investing USD10 million to set up 10 new centres during 2005 and 2006. It has a share of 60 percent in the domestic express shipments market. The company intends to maintain its annual growth rate of 25 percent.

Hong Kong-Shanghai: DHL stays competitive by increasing capacity 35%

DHL said Wednesday that it has upgraded its uplift capacity on the Hong Kong-Shanghai sector by 35 percent in response to the tremendous growth in demand express services in Asia. According to Jerry Hsu, president for Greater China and Korea at DHL Express, the five times weekly Hong Kong-Shanghai service, previously operated by a Dragonair A300B4, has been replaced by a Cathay Pacific-operated service with an Air Hong Kong Airbus A300-600GF. The Freighter, with a capacity of 47 tonnes, represents an increase in payload capacity of almost 35 percent, from 35 tonnes previously, he said. He added that DHL last upgraded the payload capacity on this route in June 2004, 12 months after the service was first launched, in response to increasing demand and surging intra-Asia shipment volumes.
