DHL, Jamaica Post now in partnership

The intertnational courier service provider, DHL Express Inc., through its Jamaican subsidiary, DHL Jamaica Limited, is now a commercial partner of Jamaica Post. DHL has drop-off facilities at four post offices in the Corporate Area. The post office drop-off points fill a gap in the DHL operations in Jamaica. The most significant benefit to DHL and customers of the post office who use the service is convenient access to an international service.

DHL beats hub forecast by four years

DHL Express will open its USD100-million dedicated central Asia hub in Hong Kong this week and it is already clear the terminal’s handling capacity will have to be expanded ahead of schedule.

Chief executive (Asia Pacific) John Mullen said a daily volume target DHL set for 2008 was achieved last week before the facility had even officially opened.

“It doesn’t mean we’ll run out of capacity overnight. But it does indicate our volume projections [made three years ago] were highly conservative,” Mr Mullen said. “We will have to substantially upgrade the hub’s capacity before the original deadline. It will be much, much sooner than that.”

DHL sees express logistics market share in Asia growing 1-2 pct annually

DHL said it expects its share in Asia Pacific’s express logistics market to grow at a steady rate of 1-2 pct in the next few years, mainly due to its China operations. ‘At the moment, we believe we are taking 1-2 pct market share a year (from our competitors) and we expect that to continue for the next few years,’ said DHL Express Chief Executive Officer for Asia Pacific John Mullen.

Mullen said the company’s share of the Asia Pacific express logistics market currently stands at about 40 pct with FedEX having a 29 pct market share and UPS and TNT Express with 19 pct and 12 pct, respectively.

DHL Express takes on domestic parcel distribution for Nestlé

DHL Express and Nestlé Deutschland have expanded their partnership with a framework agreement for domestic parcel distribution. Nestlé ships around 500,00 parcels and 6,000 express items annually. “As of now, we pick up the parcels from 22 Nestlé and Nestlé-partner locations,” explains Heike Kaufmann, account manager at DHL Express. DHL picks up the shipments from Nestlé and its subsidiaries – Nestlé’s third-party service providers are also incorporated into the framework agreement, sending their goods via DHL.
