UAE likely to withdraw postal tax

The federal government is considering partial or complete withdrawal of the 10 per cent postal tax collected from private operators, said Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Communications and Chairman of Emirates Post. “We are actively considering the matter. However, it may take some time,” he said on the sidelines of the World Mail, Express and Air Cargo Expo, Middle East and Africa. He said the new federal government will undertake further measures to liberalise the UAE’s transport, communication and logistics sector that will help it to grow further. The Middle East express mail market is worth 8 billion euros (Dh39. 5 billion), officials said. Abdullah Al Daboos, Director-General of Emirates Post, said: “The UAE market accounts for about 35 per cent of the GCC, while Saudi Arabia accounts for 55 per cent. ” That values the Gulf post-al market at about 622 million euros (Dh3. 07 billion).

NZ Post and DHL look to improve links with Asia

Smaller New Zealand businesses could be doing a booming online trade with China through new services being developed between the two markets, says New Zealand Post’s joint-venture partner DHL. Last year, Deutsche Post-owned DHL entered a joint-venture partnership with state-owned New Zealand Post – now called Express Couriers Limited. Scott Price, chief executive of DHL Express Asia Pacific, said they were already looking at how to improve links between New Zealand, Asia and Australia.

DHL Bahrain launches new time-definite express delivery services

DHL Bahrain, part of global courier company DHL Express Worldwide, launched on February 1, 2005 a number of new time-definite express delivery services in the Kingdom.

The new services provide more convenience and flexibility for the customers, allowing them to pre-arrange the exact time for their deliveries, officials said. The new services include the StartDay Express service, which allows express door-to-door deliveries by 0900 local time and the MidDay Express service for express door-to-door deliveries by 1200 local time. As part of the new services, customers are able to choose between deliveries on the next day or on the second day and can also benefit from express services for heavy shipments.

Philippine consumer affairs group recognizes DHL as best air express firm in ’04

DHL Express Philippines was named “Best Air Express Company for 2004” at the recent Who’s Who in the Philippines Consumers Choice Awards. Colombia DHL revenue op 21 pct Y/Y 2004

The sales of the Colombian unit of global carrier and package delivery company DHL Express increased 20.74 pct year-on-year in 2004, it was reported on January 24, 2005. Higher revenue was driven up by the growth of the cargo, transported by the company in 2004, which rose to 5.1 million kg in 2004 from 3.5 million kg in 2003. The parcels, transported by DHL Colombia unit, grew 15 pct year-on-year in 2004.
