DHL set to open USD1.5m airport facility in Pasay

As part of the first phase of its investment program, air express company DHL will open its newly refurbished airport gateway facility in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City in September. DHL Express Philippines country manager Charles Brewer yesterday said the refurbishment of the nearly one-hectare facility is estimated to have cost between USD1.5 million and USD2 million. “We have completely renovated the facility. We are opening it on Sept. 24. We have the state-of-the-art IT equipment and new customs offices,” he said, in a talk with reporters. Mr. Brewer said DHL is already preparing for the second phase of its investment program, which could include the opening of more service centers. However, the location of new service centers would depend on customer demand.

DHL takes over distribution for Busak&Shamban

Busak&Shamban has commissioned DHL with the European distribution of its products. DHL, the fully-owned Deutsche Post World Net subsidiary, delivers from the Stuttgart distribution centre to marketing companies and customers of the manufacturer of top-grade sealing systems in Germany and throughout Europe.

DHL Express unveils DHL Ya program for cash customers

DHL Express announced the successful results of its Customer Cash Stimulation Program called DHL Ya. The initiative is being developed across Latin America with the purpose of providing additional benefits to its cash consumers. The programme recognizes DHL’s cash customers’ loyalty with prizes and gifts such as calculators, cameras, CD players and PDAs, among others. When customers come into the Express Center, they fill out a survey and receive a loyalty card that they bring back every time they ship to receive prizes.

FedEx, UPS want Deutsche Post, DHL execs held in contempt

The trans-Atlantic dispute among the world’s package delivery giants over the ownership of DHL Airways has grown even nastier. FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service have asked the administrative law judge overseeing the case to hold the chief executives of Deutsche Post World Net and DHL International in contempt for refusing to comply with the judge’s order to testify about their relationship with DHL Airways, a U.S.-based cargo airline with approximately 34 aircraft. Deutsche Post and DHL, in turn, have asked the judge to quash the subpoenas ordering Klaus Zumwinkel, chief executive of Deutsche Post, and Uwe Doerken, chief executive of DHL International, to testify.

DHL Express to launch cargo route with Dragonair

Courier DHL Express said it will launch an overnight air-cargo route between Hong Kong and Shanghai with Hong Kong Dragon Airlines. Dragonair, whose passenger business has been devastated by SARS, will operate the service Mondays through Thursdays on an A330-300 passenger aircraft with a freight capacity of 22 metric tonnes.
