DHL Could Move to Leipzig

International courier firm DHL could pack up shop and move to the German airport of Leipzig unless plans to expand its operations at Zaventem airport outside of Brussels are approved soon, La Libre Belgique newspaper reported on Thursday. According to the newspaper the German post office Deutsche Post, which owns DHL, has already decided to base many of its own logistical operations at Leipzig and it could order its subsidiary to follow suite. But DHL insists that its owners have not ordered it to move.

DHL to spend millions on India market

DHL Worldwide Express plans to invest USD58 million over the next two-and-a-half years to beef up infrastructure in India.

Chris Callen, country manager for the company’s Indian unit, said the investment would be made in new express terminals at airports in Mumbai and Chennai, service centers and trucks. A new express gateway at Delhi airport is ready and will be operational shortly, he said. DHL, a unit of Deutsche Post World Net, says India represents one of the company’s four key markets, along with China, Japan and Australia.

DHL ordered to hand over documents in U.S. probe

A judge has ordered DHL Worldwide Express, the U.S. arm of DHL Express, to hand over documents requested by FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service in the investigation into the ownership of Astar Air Cargo, formerly DHL Airways. Some of the documents sought by FedEx and UPS involve the financial relationship between Brussels-based DHL International, and William Robinson, the former principal owner of DHL Airways.

International courier services provider DHL Worldwide Express Corp. is discussing with the Board of Investments and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority ways to make the Philippines a major trading hub in the region. DHL Philippines country manager Charles Brewer said in an interview yesterday that the company had put some initiatives in place to help make the country more prominent in the global trading map.Among these initiatives is the setting up within the country’s economic zones of help desks for neophyte exporters and importers with 24/7 delivery and pick-up schedules.
