DHL signs new agreement with Borderlinx to improve global ecommerce (U.S)

DHL announced a new five-year agreement with Borderlinx, a U.K.-based provider of cross-border e-commerce solutions. The new agreement between DHL and Borderlinx gives shoppers outside the U.S. the ability to order products from any U.S. Internet retailer. The Borderlinx solution also provides simple access to a global marketplace for US internet retailers who have previously only offered delivery within the U.S. marketplace.

U.S. Internet retailers can integrate directly with Borderlinx to make their products immediately available to the international marketplace. Borderlinx provides internet merchants with payment solutions, order fulfillment and DHL delivery services for product delivery to any of the 225 countries and territories served by DHL.

All purchases are sent to and stored at DHL’s primary air and ground hub in Ohio until the customer requests delivery. One consolidated delivery of purchases saves consumers significantly on import fees, duties and transportation charges.

DHL Solutions will provide full-service warehousing and fulfillment services including product storage, picking, packaging and consolidation of customer products for Borderlinx at the DHL hub in Wilmington, Ohio. Hosting operations on-site at the DHL hub in Wilmington, Ohio allows for direct access to international flights and late cutoff times. DHL’s logistics solutions will scale to adjust to retail cycles throughout the year.

Deutsche Post's DHL struggles with delays new Leipzig hub

Deutsche Post World Net AG’s express unit, DHL, is struggling with delays at its new cargo hub in Leipzig, Die Welt reported, citing pilots’ comments in internet forums.
The newspaper quoted a spokesman for the German mail services company as saying everything is going according to plan.
Deutsche Post plans to inaugurate the 300 million euro Leipzig hub, its third global hub after Hong Kong and Wilmington, United States, officially on May 26.
The report said pilots have claimed that ground staff at the new hub has not yet been sufficiently trained.
It alleged some flights have been redirected to Brussels, DHL’s previous hub.
The start-up of DHL’s Wilmington hub was delayed by several months, putting pressure on the start of Deutsche Post’s U.S. express operations, which have posted unspecified losses since the company entered the market in 2004.

Deutsche Post's DHL to shut Bochum site after Nokia plant closure

Deutsche Post World Net AG.’s DHL unit will shut down its site in Bochum, eliminating 230 jobs, after major client Nokia Oyj decided to close its factory in the western German city, a spokesman for DHL said, partially confirming a report in Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.

Nokia in January said it will close its Bochum plant this summer because it is too expensive to operate there. The bulk of production will be transferred to a lower-cost Romanian factory, which started up in the first quarter.

The spokesman declined to confirm that the DHL site’s 230 workers will receive their notice within the coming two weeks.

The newspaper also reported that the site will be shut down on June 30, and that the company plans to pay workers half a month’s pay as severance.
