DHL announce organizational changes in US

DHL today announced organizational changes that represent a key step toward building a more efficient and competitive infrastructure for its U.S. operations following the close of the company’s acquisition of Airborne. Effective immediately, pick up and delivery services previously handled by 169 of DHL’s nationwide service centers will be transitioned to couriers currently servicing the Airborne delivery network.

Impacted DHL employees will continue to be paid and receive benefits through October 31, 2003, and will receive severance packages based on years of service.

Dutch McGregor deal for DHL

DHL Solutions has won a 10-year contract to provide warehousing and distribution for McGregor Fashion.
The contract, which covers flat-packed and hanging garments, will be handled from McGregor’s central European distribution centre in Waalwijk, in the Dutch province of Noord Brabant.

DHL Worldwide intends to operate out of its own facility in Delhi by Oct 2003 and is planning to set up own facilities in Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.

AStar proclaims independence as trial gets under way

The long-awaited public hearing regarding AStar Air Cargo’s citizenship began on Tuesday with the airline and its competitors laying out their arguments in the case. John Dasburg, chairman and chief executive of AStar, formerly DHL Airways, took the stand as the first witness, saying he took the helm of the company only after he was assured that he would have no higher-ups to answer to. Dasburg and the AStar legal team sought to quash arguments by FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service lawyers that foreign interest, namely German postal company Deutsche Post World Net, exert undue control over Miami-based AStar.

U.S. law requires airlines that fly within the U.S. meet corporate citizenship requirements, including that they be under “actual control” of U.S. interests.

DHL completes acquisition of Airborne's ground operations

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, has announced the completion of its acquisition of Airborne Inc’s ground operations for approximately USD1.05 billion in cash, bringing increased competition to the U.S. express delivery market. The transaction was announced on March 25, 2003.

The company also announced that Uwe Doerken, CEO of DHL Worldwide and a member of DHL parent company Deutsche Post World Net’s Executive Board, has appointed Carl Donaway, formerly Chairman and CEO of Airborne, as Executive Chairman of DHL Holdings Inc. John Fellows will remain CEO of DHL Holdings Inc.
