Catalogue firms join forces for new trade body

Over 100 catalogue owners are forming their own trade association in an attempt to improve standards of training and support within the catalogue industry. The new body, called the Catalogue Exchange, may also be used to challenge the DMA (UK) on the issue of size-based pricing. Although negatively received by the majority of the direct marketing industry, Royal Mail’s new pricing proposals are set to improve the lot of niche cataloguers by reducing their costs.

Spanish direct mail market statistics

The Spanish direct mail market is one hundred per cent liberalised. Equally, city centres have also been liberalised since the sixties. This has meant that the national post office has lost probably 70% of the local market and 90% of the market within the regional province. Ninety per cent is technically illegal but impossible to control. It is clear on a national basis that it has lost 10% to these local licensed operators.

Yugoslavia, Croatia Direct Mail Service Resumes

Direct postal service will be established between Yugoslavia and Croatia next week, by 19 August at the latest, Assistant General Manager of Yugoslav Post and Telecommunications (PTT) Rastko Grujicki told Tanjug. Mail between the two countries has had to pass through Hungary and Austria and many letters were lost on the way, and it was not possible to send packages at all, he said. Mail and packages worth up to 900 euros will from now on be exchanged directly, Grujicki said.
