Wage rise at DPD Switzerland

DPD Switzerland and trade unions have agreed on a 1.7 pct wage rise with effect from 1st January, 2008.

According to the agreement, all employees of DPD and employees of its subcontractors will receive a rise of 1.7 pct, including 0.8 pct to cover inflation and a 0.9 pct actual wage increase. In addition, there will be a further 0.5 pct on an individual basis.

DPD Switzerland said it is the only private supplier within the CEP industry that has an overall contract of employment with trade unions.

In addition, DPD has lowered the weekly working hours for delivery drivers to 43 hours, whereas all other employees remain with 42 hours per week. Delivery and depot staff will in future receive five weeks of holidays.

Parceline changes name to DPD and plans new EUR 75m hub

The UK parcel carrier Parceline is changing its name to DPD in order to offer all its domestic and international services under one brand. The GeoPost subsidiary is also planning a EUR 75 million new national hub in central England.

Parceline, which has been the British franchise partner of DPD since 1995, said the re-branding would clearly show it was part of an international group. The company, with 42 depots nationwide, focuses on B2B parcels services, and is a leading provider to the telecommunications, entertainment and retail sectors.

In a customer information leaflet, Parceline said the name change, which includes new uniforms, re-branded vehicles and a re-launched website, would take effect on March 28. Its products will also be re-branded to DPD 10:00, DPD 12:00, DPD Next Day and DPD Two Day for domestic deliveries, and to DPD Classic and DPD Express for international services.

Other GeoPost subsidiaries to have re-branded to DPD over the last two years include the operators in Benelux, Poland, Russia and the Baltic States. The DPD network has 500 depots across 38 countries, mostly in Europe, delivering more than two million parcels daily.

DPD Geopost Germany with new management

Arnold Schroven was appointed as Managing Director of DPD GeoPost Germany in place of Hans Fluri who is leaving the company.

Fluri had decided to leave the German parcels carrier in order to join a position with a “renowned international company”, DPD GeoPost Germany said in a statement.

Schroven had been named as his successor by Paul-Marie Chavanne, GeoPost CEO.

Schroven has been with DPD since 1992 and held a number of senior management positions. He has driven development of the international DPD franchise network, and will remain head of the separate franchise organisation DPD GmbH.

Parceline becomes DPD

Express carrier Parceline is rebranding as DPD, express network which has 500 depots in 38 countries. The new DPD uniforms and liveried vehicles will be seen immediately in the UK.

DPD, which stands for Dynamic Parcel Distribution, delivers more than two million parcels daily. It is part of the French GeoPost Group, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of La Poste Group – the French Post Office.

La Poste has also invested GBP 56 million in a new hub for the business about a mile from the existing site in Birmingham.

DPD has 42 depots in the UK and deals predominantly with business-to-business customers.

The existing Smethwick site will be used to support the expansion of sister company Interlink Express, which is aimed at small businesses.

Chief executive Kay Phillips said: “We will now be more easily recognised as an international operator.

The new hub is sited between junctions 1 and 2 on the M5 motorway, in Oldbury, West Midlands and uses the latest tilt tray technology supported by sophisticated MIS systems. It also has s a 24/7/365 vehicle maintenance unit for the fleet of double-decker trailers, along with executive offices and staff facilities.

DPD opens distribution hub in Melle, north-west Germany

DPD has officially put into operation its new parcel distribution centre in the town of Melle, close to Osnabrück, north-west Germany, with the aim of strengthening its network in the region and to keep up with the growing parcel volumes.

The 48,450 sqm facility is one of the main hubs in the DPD network in Germany with its latest technology and the highest sorting capacity nationwide. Up to 15,000 parcels per hour are sorted on the conveyor belts according to their routes and destinations. In total, about 60 delivery vehicles and 120 lorries operate at the 28,800 sqm yard of the depot. Since its start-up in December 2007, the depot has been handling around 100,000 parcels a day.

In addition, the EUR 20 million hub has the most transport connections to the intercity transport within the whole European DPD network and thus guarantees quick parcel delivery to all DPD locations within Germany. Moreover, direct deliveries to Benelux, France, UK, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland are operated on a daily basis. Melle is strategically located on the Amsterdam – Hanover motorway, north of the Rhine-Ruhr industrial region.

DPD said that it has also been gradually extending its product portfolio according to market demands and customer needs going from standard and express parcels and numerous other services to customized solutions within Germany as well as at an international level.
