Claude Béglé to join DHL Express

Claude Béglé will be joining DHL, the global market leader in express and logistics, after having spent several years successfully building an international network and managing the Geopost International Division. He has been a Board Member of the Geopost group since 1999 and the Chairman of the European DPD organisation. Both Geopost and DPD are subsidiaries of the French La Poste. Béglé, 56, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer for DHL Express Germany and will also be Managing Director DHL Express Central Europe, responsible for Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. In his new position, Claude Béglé will report to Peter E. Kruse, Management Board member of Deutsche Post World Net and CEO of DHL Express Europe.

Czech parcel traffic grows by 14 pct yearly

Parcel traffic in the Czech Republic grows by some 14 percent a year as companies delivering parcels handle about 150,000 units a day, CTK learnt in a poll of the companies today. Annual sales from this activity reach an estimated Kc4-5 billion a year. DPD chief executive Daniel Mares said parcel traffic among companies prevailed as some 60 percent of Czech companies have parcels delivered. Abroad, the rate is about 90 percent.

Austrian Post AG leaves DPD

Austrian freighters Lagermax, Schachinger and Gebrueder Weiss bought back the 30 pct stakes which Austrian postal company Oesterreichische Post AG had owned in each of them and thus ended the cooperation of their joint-venture parcel service company DPD with Post AG. Post AG started the cooperation with DPD in mid-1997 by buying 30 pct in each of its founders. The contracts for the withdrawal were signed on August 31, 2005, and the move is effective from September 1, 2005. The price was not revealed.

Austrian Post AG plans own business parcel services

Austrian postal company Oesterreichische Post AG will sever its cooperation with parcel service company DPD and launch its own business-to-business parcel services in 2007, the Post AG supervisory board decided on September 2, 2005.
In the next two weeks Post AG will also buy a parcel service company in the Czech Republic, which CEO Anton Wais called the largest acquisition in the history of Post AG, referring to a well-known company. Wais, however, gave no details. Following the withdrawal from DPD Post AG is also considering acquisitions in Hungary and Bulgaria. Recently it bought Hungary’s direct handbill distributor Feibra.

Hand Held Products signs five year maintenance contract with DPD

Hand Held Products, the world’s leading supplier of image-based data capture systems, has signed a pan-European agreement with DPD (Deutscher Paket Dienst GmbH & Co KG), a subsidiary of La Poste and part of the GeoPost group. Under the new agreement, which runs until 2010, Hand Held Products will provide support and maintenance services on over 6,000 Dolphin 9500 mobile computers. The Dolphins are being used in DPD’s depots and delivery trucks in Europe. The two companies had already signed an agreement earlier this year, when DPD installed an automated delivery scan system based around the Dolphins.
