Hi-Tech ‘Track and Trace’ brings DJB to Palletforce

DJB Haulage, a transport company in BANES (Bath and North East Somerset), has joined the PalletFORCE palletised distribution network in order to enhance the range of services it can offer to its customers.

The decision to enter a pallet network was made after DJB acquired a transport company in March that had substantial pallet business. “It made sense to join a network and PalletFORCE impressed us the most,” explains the company’s David Buxton.

The key reason for choosing PalletFORCE is its innovative pinpoint IT system, which offers real-time ‘track and trace’ for all pallets. Designed by logistics specialist Trans-aXion, pinpoint registers every pallet with a unique identification, which customers can use to trace deliveries throughout the distribution process via the pinpoint website.

Deutsche Post receives certificate for quality management in customer service

Customer service’s quality management system in the MAIL division of Deutsche Post fulfills international standard requirements according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000. That was now also certified to the company as the result of a successful certification procedure.

Costly audits and comprehensive documentation provided the basis of the certification performed by DNV Zertifizierung und Umweltgutachter GmbH. The certificate is valid for three years, during which the certifier reviews the quality management system once annually in the framework of a follow-up audit.

The task of customer service is to fulfill the wishes and requests of the customer, whether these are complaints, questions about products and services or order processing. This should be accomplished quickly and reliably with personal commitment and, last but not least, respectful, friendly and constructive interaction with customers. A quality management system is the foundation for consistently orientating all existing structures and processes toward the customer and the fulfillment of his or her wishes and requests. Weak spots are eliminated, organization gaps closed, and proven solutions systematized and further developed. With EASO (“excellent activities in service organization”), Deutsche Post’s own quality management system developed specifically for this, the company now has at its disposal a recognized foundation at the international level.

TNT wins Ikea catalogue distribution contract

TNT Post has won the GBP 2m-plus contract to distribute Ikea’s catalogues to UK households over the next year and will, for the first time, be the sole distributor.

TNT, which has worked with the furniture retailer since 1992, has always shared contracts with other distributors; it worked with a company called Deya in the last contract. It has been awarded sole supplier status following a lengthy tender process earlier this year.

The new edition of the catalogue is to go out to 13.3m households in the next month through TNT’s Solus doordrop service.

The service uses TNT’s Team Network, a national field force of 8,000 distributors, directed by more than 150 full-time area managers.

Mail Posts Trillion Mark

The Royal Mail has delivered more than one trillion letters across the UK since records began in 1839, research has shown.

The postal group said it expected deliveries to continue increasing despite alternative forms of communicating such as emails and texting.

More than 84 million items are delivered every day and officials said they expected the next trillion milestone to be reached in 30 years time.

The milestone was announced ahead of changes next week to the pricing of post, which will be based on size and shape as well as weight.

Letters sent since 1839, when the Penny Black stamp was first introduced, would cover the whole of the earth 42,500 times over, the study showed.
