Geodis supporting FedEx

The Paris (France)-based transport and logistics group Geodis, which is majority controlled by the French state railway SNCF, has signed a contract with the US-based express service provider FedEx Express. The terms of the agreement stipulate that Geodis collect and deliver consignments for FedEx Express in and around all French cities in which FedEx does not have a direct presence. The contract is valid for a three-year period commencing on 2 January 2007.

TNT Helps the News Flow at the FT

The mailroom management arm of a business-to-business express delivery giant has scooped a new two-year contract to provide a range of services for one of the most famous newspapers in the world.

TNT Managed Services, a division on TNT Express Specialist Services, has been tasked to provide a full goods in/goods out, portering and mailroom solution at the Financial Times headquarters building at Number One, Southwark Bridge, central London.

Print/Envelopes: Long live the statement

Could the rise of digital print and online billing see the death of paper-based statement marketing, asks Claire Foss.

The synergies between statements and marketing are obvious: customers are more likely to open, read and engage with statements and bills. Once the technology to produce tailored messages is in place, running costs are low. Brands including HSBC, BT and GE as well as most utility, telecoms and financial services are engaged in statement marketing programmes.

They are mining a rich seam. Transactional mail constitutes a third of the UK’s total mail, according to a Triangle Transactional Mail survey in January, of which about 70 per cent was generated from financial services.

UK Royal Mail PAF to undergo change in its pricing structure

Royal Mail is changing the licence agreement for its flagship data file Postcode Address File (PAF) to make it “simpler and more transparent” for users.

Currently PAF is charged on a per-computer server model as opposed to per-user, which is seen to discriminate against smaller businesses. Royal Mail is proposing to change to a tiered pricing structure based on the number of users of the PAF file.

The postal services company denied the move was intended to raise more revenue from PAF and said that access to the file would be cheaper for some users.

The new licence will be phased in over the next three years. The announcement was made at a Royal Mail AGM in June, with full details of the new prices to be revealed on 1 September.

UK Royal Mail develops door-to-door ebooking system

Royal Mail is to launch a web-based booking system for its door-to-door division in 2007 as part of its increasing emphasis on the door-drop medium.

It will replace the email and telephone-based scheme currently in place and allow customers to deal with every aspect of their booking online.

The system, which is being developed in consultation with clients, is already in the testing phase and will be trialled on a limited basis before rolling out just after Christmas.
