Scotland set for privatised post trial

Britains first fully privatised door-to-door post service to rival the Royal Mail is to be trialled in Scotland.

Glasgow and Edinburgh have been chosen, along with Manchester, for an experiment which will give customers the choice of having collection, sorting and delivery carried out entirely in private hands.

DHL signs an agreement with the Aragonese franchise Foticos

As of July 1st, DHL services are available through the Aragonese chain of photograph stores, Foticos, thanks to an agreement signed by both companies.

The agreement will allow the 900,000 residents of the province of Zaragoza to use DHL’s comprehensive transport services, for both domestic and international shipments. The agreement, slated to begin in the month of July in Zaragoza-based Foticos stores, will later expand to other Foticos establishments in provinces including Huesca, Teruel, Barcelona, La Rioja and Gipuzkoa.

Cash Flow from Operations for FedEx Reaches Eight Year High

CashFlowNews.com reports that Cash Flow from Operations for FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) for its quarter ended May 31, 2006 was $1,457,000,000, a 26% increase over the year earlier same quarter when FedEx generated USD1,157,000,000 in Cash Flow from Operations.
FedEx has generated thirteen consecutive quarters of positive Cash Flow from Operations. Cash Flow from Operations for the most recent quarter also reached a eight year high. For FedEx’s twelve months ended May 31, 2006 Cash Flow from Operations was USD 3,676,000,000, compared with USD3,117,000,000, a 17.9% increase over the comparable year earlier twelve months. Cash Flow from Operations for the most recent twelve months also reached a eight year high. The shares of FedEx were recently trading at USD108.82 which is within 10% of their ten year high of USD120.01 on May 5, 2006.

Price change for UK post

Changes to postage prices could cause confusion at Post Office branches, customers and consumer groups have warned.

Royal Mail is bringing in a new system called Pricing in Proportion, which it claims will make the cost of posting a letter fairer.

The changes, which come into effect on August 21, mean charges will be based on size and thickness as well as weight.

The cost of posting an A4 envelope will go up – with a new 44p stamp introduced.

Royal Mail says the new system better reflects the cost of collecting, sorting and delivering mail.

But some people are worried it could cause frustration at the Post Office counter.
