Portugal Postal Traffic

Portugal’s postal traffic exceeded 77 million shipments in the first quarter of 2006, up 30 pct year-on-year, data from the local communications regulator Anacom showed on July 3, 2006.

Compared to the last quarter of 2005, the country’s postal traffic grew by some 14.7 pct.

Some 4.0 million of the total number of 77 million shipments in the three-month period to March 2006 were express mail deliveries.

DX Ireland postpones plan for postal service

DX Ireland, which was considering starting a postal delivery service to rival An Post, has postponed the idea until after the postal market is fully liberalised, saying it is not financially viable.

Under the terms of existing legislation, any newcomer to the postal market has to charge 2.5 times the 48 cent charged by State postal operator An Post for all items under 50g.
