ARCEP (France) issues the first postal licence to Adrexo (Groupe Ouest France)

Under the postal regulation law of May 2005, ARCEP is responsible for issuing licences for items of correspondence to La Poste’s competitors. This morning, ARCEP issued the first licence to Adrexo (subsidiary of SPIR, Groupe Ouest France) to offer services in France, at a national level, excluding Corsica. The authorisation regime concerns items of correspondence open to competition, i.e. items of correspondence with a unit weight greater than 50 g or a price greater than EUR 1.325, that is two-and-a-half times the base tariff.

DHL orchestrates logistics for EMI Music France

For the next five years, DHL Exel Supply Chain will be responsible for co-ordinating the logistics for EMI’s CDs, DVDs and POS advertising materials. More than 30 million albums will be delivered each year for the company’s twelve record labels. Production and packaging of the CDs and DVDs destined for the European market, is centralised in Uden, in the Netherlands. DHL has taken over EMI’s logistic processes, which until now were managed by another provider at the site in Saint-Ouen-L’Aumône, and integrated all 52 employees.

TNT Network Logistics opens UK PCC for Somerfield

TNT Network Logistics has established a new South East primary consolidation centre (PCC) for Somerfield Ltd as part of the company’s Ambient Consolidation initiative being rolled out across the UK. “We manage stock on behalf of a range of suppliers to Somerfield, and consolidate it into full loads for delivery into the Somerfield RDCs [regional distribution centres],” says David Bermingham, Managing Director, TNT Newsfast/TNT Network Logistics. TNT Network Logistics has long standing experience in operating primary consolidation centres for multiple retailers. The Somerfield operation is based at TNT’s 300,000 sq ft multi-user facility at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, which already focuses on services to the grocery trade. Other clients include Del Monte, Daybreak Foods and Hipp Baby Food.

JPMorgan takes over BNY's share of Royal Mail

Royal Mail has appointed JPMorgan as the sole global custodian of its GBP22bn assets. The deal sees JPMorgan Worldwide Securities Services snatch Bank of New York’s (BNY) GBP2.2bn holding. The move comes after reports of a huge shortfall in Royal Mail’s pension scheme, totalling as much as GBP56bn.

Postal industry visionary Elmar Toime joins the board at Blackbay

Leading industry figure joins Blackbay to drive mobile technology uptake within the supply chain sector. London, UK Blackbay, a market leader in delivering real-time mobile worker solutions that enable business process improvements to supply chain and field service mission-critical operations, today announced the appointment of world renowned postal sector advisor, Elmar Toime as a non-executive director. Elmar is a well-known figure in the global postal industry and is the former Chairman of the Management Board of Royal Mail. He had group-wide responsibilities across Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd operations. In that period he was also Chairman of GLS, Royal Mails European parcel distribution business. From 1993 to 2003, Elmar was the CEO of New Zealand Post. Earlier this year, he was appointed to the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Post World Net.
