Chronopost International Portugal Q1 2006 Turnover Up 11.5 Pct Y/Y

Chronopost International Portugal, the local unit of French postal operator Chronopost International, generated a turnover of more than 7.8 mln euro (USD9.96 mln) in the first quarter of 2006, up 11.5 pct year-on-year, Portuguese economic news portal Agencia Financeira reported on May 24, 2006.
The number of orders processed by the company in the period exceeded 1.2 million, up 12 pct. The strong first quarter 2006 earnings results reinforced Chronopost International Portugal leading position among the private mail delivering companies in the country, the CEO for Portugal, Olivier Establet, said.

Attendance levels improve 18% across UK Royal Mail

Sick absence has been cut significantly as postmen and women increased their attendance levels by 18% over the 2005-06 financial year, Royal Mail announced today. The latest improvement builds on earlier gains and underlines the success of a Royal Mail incentive scheme offering employees with a 100% attendance record the chance to win a new car in a draw. The winners of 39 Vauxhall Astras have been collecting their prizes, while 780 Royal Mail people won shopping vouchers. In total, nearly 56,000 employees did not miss a day at work during the 12 months to March 2006 and all have been sent a GBP150 holiday discount voucher as a “thank you” for their commitment.

Parcel services hit Business Post

Business Post reported a 74 per cent fall in pre-tax profit after persistent problems at its core parcel services business. The company, which has issued four profit warnings in 16 months, said pre-tax profit fell 74 per cent to Pounds 5m for the year to March 31, in line with expectations. Sales rose from Pounds 233.3m to Pounds 278.2m. Its shares rose 31 3/4p to 379p yesterday. Guy Buswell, the chief executive brought in last December to turn the company round, said: “This is not great news on a numbers basis but we have done a lot since January and I have absolute confidence in the recovery.”
