DHL has won a contract from Air France Industries, the aviation group’s maintenance division, covering parts distribution and returns in Europe. Polish PM says gov't wants airline LOT, energy group PGE, postal service privatized within 2 years

Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz said Wednesday that the government would like to see major state-controlled players, such as national carrier LOT, energy group PGE and the national postal service, privatized on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) within the next two years. “Over the next two years we want to see the giants of state-owned companies like [Polish airlines] LOT, [state-controlled insurer] PZU and [Polish postal service] Polska Poczta and [Polish energy group] PGE on the Warsaw Stock Exchange,” Marcinkiewicz said during a press conference to mark the 15th anniversary of the WSE, broadcast on TVN 24 television news channel.

Germany's Trans-o-flex invests EUR 12m in new parcels centre

German express parcels and pallets carrier Trans-o-flex is investing € 12.5 million in a new sorting centre in Alzenau, south-east of Frankfurt, to extend its national network. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on May 16.

The new facility, which is expected to enter service in April 2007, will create 60 to 70 full-time and 30 to 40 part-time jobs. Located on an area of 36,668 sqm, the first building stage of the handling terminal will cover 7,994 sqm, with a further 872 sqm for office space.

Ceska posta raises profit by a half at end-2005

Czech postal service operator Ceska posta raised net earnings by 50 percent to CZK 667 million last year, the second best result in the company’s history, and turnover was 8.3 percent higher at CZK 17.7 billion. Audited results were approved by the supervisory board on Tuesday. Karel Kettner, head of the Ceska posta CEO’s office, said the state-run company had to cope with tough conditions on a more liberal market for postal services, primarily in the segment of letter post and packages, with rivals operating in economically lucrative territories.

TNT Post UK enters consumer parcels market – network acquisition provides TNT with 80% household coverage

TNT Post UK today announces the acquisition of the JD Williams courier network. This development provides an entry for TNT Post UK to Business to Consumer (B2C) and Consumer to Consumer (C2C) parcel and packet delivery markets, providing 80 per cent coverage in the United Kingdom. The JD Williams courier network employs 194 employees supported by a network of over 2200 self-employed couriers and currently delivers some 12 million parcels and packets per year to consumers in the UK. The acquisition of the courier network is a significant gain for TNT Post’s ‘End to End’ strategy of being able to offer customers a complete postal and delivery solution.
