UK Royal Mail gears up for massive standard life postal vote

Royal Mail will today launch one of the biggest mail operations it has undertaken for a private company when it begins delivering 3.77 million documents and ballot papers to Standard Life members and policy-holders throughout the UK. The Edinburgh-based financial services giant selected Royal Mail, ahead of competition from other postal operators, to carry out the historic mailing of the documents which will allow members to vote on the company’s demutualisation proposals. The operation involves 3.77 million documents, weighing 300 grams each. This amounts to 1,131 tonnes of mail and to move it requires 3,000 mail cages and over 70 articulated lorries from Royal Mail’s fleet.

Portugal CTT Expresso best European express mail operator

CTT Expresso, a subsidiary of Portugal’s postal operator CTT-Correios de Portugal, has been awarded as the best express mail service operator in Europe, Portuguese economic news portal Agencia Financeira reported on April 17, 2006.
CTT Expresso received the silver certificate in the EMS Certification Awards, which are annually organised by EMS Cooperative, an association created by the United Nations (UN) as part of the Universal Postal Union project. CTT Expresso is considered also the 11th best performing express mail operator worldwide among a total 196 sector companies.

Polish Poczta Polska to be privatised by 2011

Polish state-owned postal company Poczta Polska is to be privatised by 2011, the Government Information Centre (CIR) said on April 11, 2006. The privatisation will proceed in two phases. In the first Poczta Polska will be fully taken over by the Treasury Ministry which is in charge of the restructuring and the privatisation of the country’s state-run companies. In the second phase the ministry will prepare the privatisation which will include the free allocation of some shares to the employees. The government will also guarantee Poczta Polska certain subsidies, such as payments for providing a public postal service, and the right to use its brand name.

French GeoPost to invest 25 Mln Euro in Polish subsidiary

French courier service provider GeoPost, a subsidiary of French postal service company La Poste, plans to invest 25 mln euro (USD30.6 mln) in its wholly-owned Polish subsidiary, courier service firm Masterlink. The three-year investment programme is in line with GeoPost’s strategy of strengthening its position on the Polish market. It includes purchasing land plots, expanding its network across the country, constructing parcel-sorting centres and renovating existing offices. The company also plans ro deploy new IT systems and employ a further 1,000 in the next three years.
