Austrian Post AG Trade Union calls IPO protest on Jan 30, 2006

The trade union of Austrian state-owned postal company Oesterreichische Post AG will stage a protest demonstration in front of the headquarters of state-holding and privatisation agency OeIAG at 0900 local time (0800 GMT) on January 30, 2006 against the planned initial public offering (IPO) of the post office, union head Gerhard Fritz confirmed on January 25, 2006. The Post AG trade union is not against the IPO in principle but considers the current plans to be premature. The union started its protests, which might lead to industrial strikes, with a march to the finance ministry in the previous week.

EU examines complaint over govt aid to Belgian postal service

The European Commission said it is examining a complaint made by several newspaper suppliers over alleged state aid earmarked by the government for a new distribution system set up by Belgium’s postal service. ‘We are examining this complaint to see whether we will open an in-depth inquiry,’ said a spokesman for EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes. The news confirms reports in financial daily De Tijd. According to the newspaper, Belgium’s postal service secured an agreement with the government and newspaper editors in April 2004 to distribute newspapers before 8.30 am CET from the start of 2006.

Nissan Renault Alliance renews contract with TNT Logistics UK

Nissan, on behalf of the Nissan Renault Alliance, has renewed its UK distribution contract, worth in excess of €30 million (£21m), for a further three years with TNT Logistics. The companies have worked in close partnership for 14 years. The operation involves delivering vehicle parts from a single national parts distribution centre at Lutterworth, Leicestershire, delivering through the night to over 400 Nissan and Renault dealerships, five nights a week.

Norwegian DHL Express extends terminal for 2.5 mln Euro

DHL Express Norge has invested over 20 mln Norwegian crowns (USD3.1 mln/2.5 mln euro) in an extended logistics terminal in Bergen, on Norway’s west coast, DHL Express Norge managing director Neel Frankman said on January 24, 2006. The terminal was built to meet the demand from the steadily increasing transport activities in the western region of Vestlandet. Previously, DHL Express Norge operated two logistics terminals. The company will now handle air, land and sea transports from the extended terminal. Moving-in is scheduled for January 28, 2006.
