Latvian govt to talk with Latvijas Pasts and Lattelkom about electronic signature project

Latvian government ordered the secretariat of E-Affairs Minister Janis Reirs on Tuesday to launch negotiations with the state-owned Latvijas Pasts postal company and Lattelekom telecommunications company about the development of the electronic signature services.

The government wants to complete the talks in three months time and then decide which company to entrust with implementing the electronic signature project.

35,000 postal workers end strike in Romania after reaching pay settlement

Some 35,000 striking postal workers agreed to return to work Tuesday after reaching an agreement with management for a 4 percent wage rise. Postal workers began what was to be a 10-day strike on Monday to demand a 16 percent wage rise, which managers and Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu said the post office could not afford. Under the agreement, 9,200 postal employees will earn the minimum wage of 3.3 million lei (USD117, euro90) starting May 1, Carstea said. Others will get wage hikes depending on how long they have worked for the company or meal tickets that can be used to buy food.

460,000 e-invoices delivered in Belgium in 2004

A total 460,000 e-invoices were delivered in Belgium in 2004, it was reported on April 12, 2005. Belgian electronic bill services provider Isabel registered 260,000 electronic invoices (e-invoices) in 2004, compared to 200,000 e-invoices by its competitor Certipost. According to Isabel and Certipost, the total number of invoices delivered in Belgium in 2004, stood between 800 million and 1.0 billion.

KfW to sell more shares in Deutsche Post

Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), the German state development bank, is expected to sell a stake that it holds in German postal service operator Deutsche Post on behalf of the state in June. It is thought that the bank wishes to take advantage of the favourable share price. Provided that the German government agrees, the bank can sell the shares after May 28, six months after the last time that a stake held by the state in Deutsche Post was sold.

Romanian Posta Romana considers financial-banking services in next years

Romanian state-owned postal company Posta Romana plans to start offering financial-banking services in the next few years in a bid to expand its product portfolio, company’s general director Dan Mihai Toader said on April 19, 2005.
The company intends to sign partnerships to operate public telephony services, electronic services, e-learning, e-health, secure interconnections for banking system, money management and data storage, Toader added. Posta Romana, with its 7,000 units countrywide, has already started offering some financial services such as micro credits, cash collection and cash management.
