Deutsche post expects foreign growth to balance loss of letter monopoly

Deutsche Post has said that it is expecting the current operating income of 2bn euros for its letter service division to remain stable for the long term. Although analysts fear that the profits for the division could fall following the ending of the companys monopoly on letter services at the end of 2007, management explains that the company will compensate for loss of domestic business with gains in international letter activities.

TPN members plan future strategy

The Pallet Networks members met last week to tour its new hub near Rugby and to discuss future strategy. Chariman Richard Eldred says the hub move at the beginning of January went smothly: We were aware that some networks have experiended operational problems immediately after moving so we spend a lot of time planning the intricacies of how hub operations would take place. We were delighted that these plans fell very much into place from the first nights at the start of January, with virtually no teething problems at all, he says.

DHL terminates partnership with Swedish Wilson Logistics

DHL has terminated its strategic partnership with the Danish unit of Swedish transport and logistics group Wilson Logistics Group, it was reported on February 2, 2005. The move was attributed to the acquisition of Wilson Logistics by Dutch postal, express and logistics company TPG NV in the summer of 2004, DHL’s Danish division communications director, Pis Baagoe Skat-Roerdam, said. Under the partnership, Wilson Logistics sold DHL’s courier services to its Danish customers at a special price. After the termination of the partnership, Wilson Logistics will have to buy DHL’s products at the traditional price.

TPG’s Italian Logistics wins new 3-yr contract from Canon

TPG NV said that its TNT Logistics unit in Italy has won a new three year contract from Canon Inc. No financial details were disclosed. Under the terms of the new contract, TNT Logistics Italy will develop solutions for a new logistics system with a central warehouse in the Netherlands and local warehouses in several European countries. All logistics activities provided to Canon Italia will be managed from the TNT Logistics Italy warehouse in Cerro al Lambro, Milan, which will also integrate the activities of Canon’s central European warehouse to perform all cross-docking operations.

New contract for Nightspeed

Preston based clothing wear manufacturer CCM, part of the Johnson Service Group, is using Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express to deliver up to 3 million garments per year as part of a £500,000 contract. Nightspeed is providing CCM with a range of next day and premium delivery services to domestic and international destinations.
