Post Office may charge to deliver mail early

The Post Office is planning a major overhaul of its delivery services which could see customers charged an annual fee to ensure that mail is delivered early, it emerged today.
Consignia, the new name for the Post Office, is considering charging customers an annual fee to deliver their post before 9.30am. But it denied that a fee of £50 was being considered.

been awarded a licence to operate mail services for business customers from 1 April 2002. This is the first time since the inauguration of the Royal Mail over 360 years ago that a private sector company will collect mail from a broad range of customers. It is estimated that annual turnover in the UK postal market is around #6.5 billion.
