Post Office plans online bill service

Consignia is planning to cash in on the growing use of the internet in Britain by launching a virtual post office that will allow customers to pay utility and other bills electronically through a single, dedicated website. The service will be free to those paying bills, but billers, such as water and and electricity companies, will be required to pay a small fee on each transaction as well as initial start up costs.”

Deutsche Post: Internet Postage Pilot a Success.

Declaring that pilots of its Internet postage offering have been successful,
Deutsche Post plans to launch the service nationwide at the end of August. The three-month-long pilots were conducted with 48 customers in Bonn and
Offenbach. The trials were designed to test the PC franking software Stampit,
the virtual stamp sales counter Postage Point and the reading systems at the
mail sorting centers.

KLM to cut 500 jobs and reduce capacity

KLM, the Dutch flag carrier, said on Monday it would cut up to 500 jobs as it reduces capacity later this year in response to the slowdown in global air travel.

The airline said it would reduce the number of seats in this year’s winter schedule by 3 per cent, compared to the same period last year. The job losses among its 28,000-strong workforce would all be achieved by natural wastage, the airline said.
