German military mail service celebrates its 15th anniversary
The German armed forces Bundeswehr and Deutsche Post have marked the 15-year anniversary of Feldpost, the German military mail service, at a celebratory event. For one-and-a-half decades Deutsche Post has been providing the link between Bundeswehr soldiers serving overseas and home. Currently it is delivering letters, packages, and parcels from home to some 8,000 soldiers serving in Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Georgia and Uzbekistan.
The collaboration between Deutsche Post and the Bundeswehr began in 1955, the year in which the Bundeswehr was established. The first mail was sent overseas in 1992 when the Bundeswehr was deployed on a humanitarian mission to Cambodia. The name “Feldpost” was used officially for the first time one year later. Feldpost offers to military personnel everything that Deutsche Post would also provide at home: as well as transporting letters, packages, and parcels soldiers can also carry out their Postbank transactions at Feldpost offices. All this is available to Bundeswehr service personnel at regular at domestic rates.

Russian express company EMEX has announced major expansion plans to extend its network and offer new services. It aims to double turnover this year and in 2008.
EMEX will open a new branch in Novosibirsk this month, its 25th office, and aims to have 35 branch offices and agencies across Russia by the end of this year. Established in 2003 with a single office in Moscow, the company now has outlets in most major Russian cities as well as a network of agents covering various regions.
EMEX specialises in express services for documents and parcels, and the express distribution of big volumes throughout the Russian Federation, and serves more than 2,000 destinations through its network. It offers international export via the FedEx network.
The have recently launched a time definite express delivery within Moscow and the surrounding region using its own fleet of vehicles. There are plans to develop similar express and distribution services for other large cities in the near future.

The Hungarian unit of TNT, a global mail and express delivery services group, plans developments worth HUF 673 million (EUR 2.7 m) in 2007 in Hungary, considerably more than last year.
TNT Express Worldwide Hungary Ltd. intends to spend HUF 290 million on a new airport base they hope to open already this year.
In 2006, the company pumped HUF 369 m into development projects, mostly on the expansion of their Budapest facility to 1,950 square metres from 1,300 sqm, mfor.hu has reported on Wednesday.
The company claims to have posted revenue growth much larger than the industry average last year, but did not provide details. It noted, however, that the government’s austerity measures had their negative impact felt in the second half of 2006.
Last year, the company increased its vehicle fleet by 8% yr/yr and invested considerably into IT upgrades, as well.
