Poste Italiane – Best Corporate IP Network of the Year

The project is part of a transition project Poste Italiane is currently involved with. They are changing the services from the standard core business to a new entity – one that is able to secure revenue from financial services as well as merchandise.

As one of the oldest consolidated services in the world Poste recognise that to keep pace with customers ever more sophisticated needs, Post Offices must supply advanced services covering financial, merchandise and email. At the same time they expect to be more efficient and productive.

The ICT Plus project resulted from Poste making a decision to provide connectivity services from three main sites in Rome, Milan and Bari to 14000 branches. Traffic is now aggregated on 5 POP interconnected by FO trunks. These POS host the data-centre.

Direct marketers get Royal Mail 'boost'

It has been suggested that the new pricing plans unveiled by Royal Mail could have a significant benefit for the direct marketing sector.

According to economist Ian Senior, the direct marketing industry could gain from the proposed changes, which would see business post charges reduced while domestic postal charges would be increased.

He explained to the Telegraph that the changes will mean companies will be able to afford more mail shots.

However, another important way for a firm to increase its value for money from a direct marketing campaign is to employ data cleansing processes so that it can reduce any losses caused by dirty data.

By carrying out data cleansing processes, a firm can get rid of any dirty data from its systems, thereby providing a high standard of data quality and ensuring that mail shots are not sent to old or incorrect addresses.

As Mr Senior himself pointed out when referring to the potential postal changes, “it is all about keeping costs down”, and the same benefits can be found in a data cleansing exercise.

Norwegian postal service ranks poorly

A recent survey of European postal services showed that only 82.4 percent of first-class, so-called “A” letters mailed in Norway were delivered on time last year. The Norwegian postal service is supposed to deliver domestic first-class mail overnight.

Most other European postal services could report that more than 90 percent of first-class mail arrived on time.

Only Latvia and Germany had slower postal service than Norway. Twenty other countries had faster service.

Norwegian postal delivery has also gotten slower in recent years. Between 2001 and 2005, as much as 87 percent of A-post was delivered overnight.

A spokesman for Posten Norge admitted service wasn’t good enough in Norway. He claimed, though, that Norway’s large land area, isolated settlements and geography made mail delivery more difficult in Norway than elsewhere.

Postal rates just went up again, meanwhile. It now costs NOK 7 (about USD 1.10) to mail a domestic letter in Norway, nearly three times what it costs in, for example, the US.
