DHL reaches half a million packstation users

Half a million customers are now using DHL’s Packstation service. Christine Schnellhammer from Munich was the 500,000th customer to sign up for the innovative automated parcel service. The degree of acceptance among customers demonstrates that what began as a DHL pilot project four years ago has proven to be a successful, nationwide 24/7 service.

“Strong customer response is motivating us to pursue a determined expansion drive for Packstation”, says Steffen Frankenberg, DHL’s Packstation project manager. The first Packstation machines for private customers were set up in Dortmund and Mainz in January 2002.

Since then their number has gone up and up. Today, more than 700 Packstation machines are in use in over 120 towns and cities, with around 30 more by the end of 2007.

Packstation enables registered customers to collect and send off small packets and parcels 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As soon as a shipment is ready for collection customers are sent a text message or e-mail. For customers sending parcels via a Packstatio, parcel stamps are available for sale at the machine.

TNT picks Four to handle battle against Royal Mail

TNT Post has briefed Four Communications to manage its corporate reputation as the delivery firm seeks to grab market share from Royal Mail.

The UK arm of the Netherlands-based company was launched two years ago after Royal Mail’s 350-year monopoly ended. Letter-delivery was opened up to full competition this year.

Four’s hire spells the end of a two-year relationship with Financial Dynamics.

Account manager Lucy Bennett said the agency would promote TNT Post’s services to the business sector via national, regional and specialist titles.

The Four team, headed by CEO Nan Williams, reports to TNT Post CEO Nick Wells, although its day-to-day contact is head of marcoms Simon Dolph.

TNT Post has won ‘downstream access’ contracts with Barclays, LloydsTSB, BSkyB and Telewest – it collects and sorts all mail from the companies before final delivery by Royal Mail. The firm is currently working to cut Royal Mail out of the loop altogether.

Post Danmark recorded a net profit of DKK 730 million in the first nine months of 2006

Post Danmark recorded a net profit of DKK 730 million in the first nine months of 2006, up DKK 177 million on the same period the year before, where results, however, were affected by non-recurring costs of DKK 90 million in relation to employee shares. Adjusted for this, the net improvement was DKK 87 million.

Total income for the first nine months of the year amounted to DKK 8,634 million, up DKK 223 million or 2.7 per cent on the same period last year.

A small increase was recorded in revenue from letters and magazine mail. Handsome growth was recorded in the parcels field, with revenue rising by approx. 7 per cent and volume by approx. 4 per cent. The positive development was driven, among other things, by the entry of new customers and growth in the light goods product. Revenue and volume also grew within the segments of dailies and unaddressed mail.

The investment in De Post – La Poste, which was confirmed at the beginning of the year, is included in the profit with effect from 1 January 2006 in Share of profits or losses of associates. The results of associates were thus considerably higher than in the same period in 2005.

For the whole year, Post Danmark expects a slight increase in total income. The fall in letters volume is expected to continue, while growth is expected in the other main products, especially parcels.
