FedEx Ground accused of illegal treatment of unionizing workers

The National Labor Relations Board has scheduled a hearing on accusations that FedEx Ground violated federal labor laws.

The hearing before an administrative law judge in Philadelphia will hear accusations that the company discouraged drivers from forming a union.

The company is also accused of discriminating against drivers who filed charges or testified against them.

Proposed USPS rate increases may influence express carriers' pricing

Earlier this year, the United States Postal Service (USPS) Board of Governors requested that the Postal Rate Commission (PRC) sign off on proposed increases for almost all of its domestic postage rates and fees, which would go into effect no sooner than May 2007.

The cumulative average of the proposed increases is 8.5 percent. Rates for priority mail and express mail would rise 13.8 percent and 12.5 percent, respectively. Parcel post rates would increase 13.7 percent.

UPS, US pilots union reach contract deal

UPS Inc. and its pilots union have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, which, if approved, would end a stalemate that dragged on for more than three years and included the pilots’ threat of a strike, the union said Friday.

The union said in a statement that the agreement would run through 2011 and must be ratified by the nearly 2,500 pilots at the Atlanta-based company.

Terms of the new contract include an hourly pay raise of 17.7 percent for top captains with at least 12 years of service and higher health care premiums paid by all pilots, according to a person who has seen the agreement but spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side has been authorized to release details.

FedEx chooses Geodis to perform pick up an delivery operations in France

As of January 1st, 2007, FedEx and Geodis will enter an operational agreement until 2010

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, and Geodis, one of the leading companies of logistics services in Europe, signed an operational agreement for a 3 year period.

“Through this agreement Fedex acknowledges Geodis’s position as the leading domestic express network in France and a supplier with a high level of service quality, as a result of our Total Customer Satisfaction policy. We will draw on our industrial resources, exclusive Track & trace system and our commitment to permanent innovation to manage these operations”, said Denis Zimmer, Senior Vice-president French regions at Geodis.

As of January 1st, 2007 Geodis will perform through its domestic Express groupage network pick-ups and deliveries for FedEx customers in designated areas in France, not directly served by FedEx. FedEx customers will benefit from Geodis’ quality of service and extensive ground infrastructure in those areas of France.

Teamsters Delegates Back Resolution to Secure FedEx Workers' Right to Pursue Union Representation

Delegates at the Teamsters 27th International Convention today overwhelmingly passed a resolution to work in solidarity with FedEx workers across the country to secure their right to freely join the Teamsters Union without pressure or intimidation.

“FedEx workers in more than 20 states are fighting back against FedEx Ground’s discriminatory practices,” said Ken Hall, International Vice President and Director of the Parcel and Small Package Division. “FedEx continues to manipulate job classifications and refuses to reclassify drivers as employees.”
