Finland Posts net sales continue to grow

Interim Report for April–June 2006

Consolidated net sales for Q2/2006 improved to EUR 376.0 million over the same period a year ago (EUR 313.4 million in Q2/2005), up by 20%, company acquisitions and organic growth accounting for 17% and 3%, respectively.
Consolidated operating profit declined to EUR 15.1 million (EUR 22.5 million), representing 4% (7%) of consolidated net sales. Profit before tax came to EUR 15.8 million (EUR 24.0 million).
Net sales reported by Messaging remained steady. The business group’s profitability was eroded by a fall (6%) in 1st class letter-mail volumes and an increase in delivery labour costs.
Information Logistics’ net sales showed favourable developments in all of its product groups, with the exception of Germany. However, price competition remained fierce.
As a result of acquisitions in 2005, Logistics reported strong growth in its net sales.

European postal companies call for complete liberalisation in 2009

Chief Executive Officers of national postal companies in the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland and Germany have started a joint initiative for a complete opening of the postal markets in Europe by 2009. In a policy paper addressed to Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy, CEOs Peter Bakker (TNT), Erik Olsson (Posten AB), Jukka Alho (Finland Post Corporation) and Klaus Zumwinkel (Deutsche Post World Net) plead for a sustainable postal sector in the next decades that should be realised by a complete market liberalisation by 2009 and the modernisation of the universal service.

Finland Post To Sell Stake in Kelpo Kuljetus JV to German DHL

Finland Post Group said on July 12, 2006 it will sell its 49 pct stake in the transport joint venture Kelpo Kuljetus Fi Oy to joint venture partner DHL, the logistics and express delivery business of German postal service group Deutsche Post.

No financial details were available.

The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

The deal is part of the partners’ aim to focus on their core businesses.

DHL and Finland Post agree on business acquisition of Kelpo Kuljetus Fi Oy.

DHL and Finland Post have agreed on a business acquisition based on which DHL will buy out Finland Post’s 49 per cent of shares in Kelpo Kuljetus Fi Oy, the jointly owned domestic transport company, rendering Kelpokuljetus a fully-owned DHL subsidiary. This deal is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

According to the deal, Finland Post will acquire the regional transport business of Kelpokuljetus, comprising the transports from post centres to delivery post offices and customers, whereby staff responsible for regional transport services, the related equipment and customer contracts will transfer to Finland Post. These employees will join Finland Post under their current employment terms.
