SNCF outsources spare parts logistics to TNT Logistics

SNCF, the state-owned French railways company, has awarded the global, Netherlands-based Mail, Logistics and Express company TPG NV, through its business unit TNT Logistics France, a 6 year contract for the management of spare parts for its high-speed trains (TGV), locomotives and railcars. The contract is worth EUR80 million and operations will start beginning of 2006. TNT Logistics has been selected to operate the 45,000 square meters central warehouse that will be located in the Paris surroundings, as well as to manage distribution operations of parts to the repairs & maintenance centres.

French Xaap Finance to buy 70 percent in TAT Express

French holding company Xaap Finance, controlled by the Papot family, will acquire a 70 pct stake in the capital of local TAT Express, the express freight transport subsidiary of French national post office La Poste, it was reported on March 31, 2005.

Xaap Finance holding will be headed by Philippe Papot, who is also president of the supervising board of French Groupe Multipap, specialised in desktop and computer-aided publishing.

TAT Express has 1,500 employees and is a subsidiary of GeoPost, the holding which regroups the main French and European parcels trademarks of La Poste group. TAT Express was founded in 1976 and since 1994 has been part of La Poste group. TAT Express has an annual turnover of 175 mln euro (USD226.7 mln) but registered a net loss for 2003, accounting for 8.84 pct of its annual turnover.

French National Assembly to debate postal reform bill

A second reading of the French government’s bill to reform postal services will take place in the French national assembly between April 12 and 14, it was announced yesterday. The bill, which passed its second reading in the French senate on March 10, is intended to open up to France’s postal services market to competition. Its provisions include permission for the French post office, La Poste, to set up a banking subsidiary.

French Chronopost selects technology of Inovia

French logistics and mail delivery solutions provider Chronopost International has selected the technology of local optimisation software solutions developer Inovia to optimise its flow control between its hubs and agencies across France, it was reported on March 25, 2005.

Chronopost decided to implement the Optimal Flux transportation plan optimisation solution of Inovia in order to achieve its objectives.

Set up in 1997, Inovia (www.inovia.com) is jointly managed by Olivier Serfaty and Frederic Leroy. Among its clients are companies such as Carrefour Carburants, L’Oreal, Transports Guisnel, Hutchinson and Mory Group.
