La Poste to merge Xange Capital with French private equity business of ABN Amro

La Poste, the French state post office, is to merge Xange Capital, its private equity arm, in a joint venture with the French private equity business of ABN Amro.

The deal will leave La Poste with control of the business. For La Poste, busy developing its financial services, the consolidation will provide an opportunity to reinforce the specialist private equity business it launched in spring last year.

Geopost France hopes to deliver bigger margin

Geopost, the holding company which contains all of the parcel service subsidiaries of the French post office, La Poste, has announced that it is aiming for an operating margin of 4 per cent this year, with an operating profit of just under 100m euros. In 2003, its margin amounted to 3.6 per cent, up from 2.7 per cent in the previous year. Turnover rose 5.2 per cent, to 2.19bn euros.

La Poste to clarify modernisation plan in July

The chairman of French postal services operator La Poste, Jean-Paul Bailly, met trade union representatives to discuss the state-owned group’s modernisation plan, conceived in an effort to stem the effects of sector competition and a continuing decline in traffic. The plan will see La Poste reduce its number of sorting offices while developing new platforms, but trade union SUD-PTT said that Mr Bailly provided little information on the location of such platforms.

German Deutsche Post chairman criticises French La Poste

The chairman of German postal services operator Deutsche Post, Klaus Zumwinkel has said that French postal service La Poste will have reason to worry when his group enters the French market in view of the EU’s liberalisation of the postal sector, to be completed in 2009.
