La Poste, the French national postal services group, has announced that SF2, the holding company it created in early 2001 to head up its various financial services activities, has now taken control of all of them. Paris postal workers exemplify climate of unease in public sector

Yesterday French postal workers continued a general unlimited strike, which began on Monday after calls from five union organisations. According to directors of La Poste, the national postal services group, fewer employees took part this time (24 per cent, compared with 41 per cent on Monday). The strike is part of protests against the planned restructuring of the group’s courier services in the 6th “arrondissement” of Paris.

La Poste France employees go on strike

Yesterday half of the 5,000 employees of the French post office (La Poste) took part in a strike called by French unions CGT, SUD, FO, CFDT and CFTC. The employees were protesting against the fact that La Poste wants to reduce the number of mail deliveries per day from two to one. This measure is to be introduced in June in the 6th arrondissement of Paris only.

France’s state-owned mail service La Poste made a profit in 2002 but only thanks to its courier and logistics services subsidiary GeoPost

As the new president of the La Poste Group, Jean-Paul Bailly, said when the results for 2002 were presented, the only reason that La Poste did not make a loss was because its courier and logistics arm GeoPost and the latter’s branches in France, Germany and the United Kingdom did especially well. However he was forced to concede that La Poste had generally underperformed and not met its own targets.

French post office hopes to speed up parcel service

The French post office (La Poste) yesterday revealed that its parcel services generated a turnover of 3.07bn euros last year in a market where competition it at a maximum. La Poste’s earnings in that sector, which account for 18 per cent of its total turnover, were achieved by its parcels divisions, Colipost and Geopost.
